Ads in full game?

Post by warpmoon »

My digitally purchased copy of the game has a scrolling ad bar at the bottom like so:

At first I thought it was because I used to have a demo version of the game installed to my WinXP-partition which had somehow caused a conflict, but I have recently swapped to Windows 7 running on a fresh new drive and reinstalled everything from scratch and yet the ads are still there.

I saw the lack of ads in the game on a screenshot in a thread here and I am starting to wonder what's going on:
fb.asp?m=2671324

I am also suffering from the "Error Code 1x740"-message if I launch the quick-launch shortcut pointing to (I do not get an UAC query when doing that for some reason):
"D:\Apps\Matrix Games\HUCE\Winharp32.exe"
That error message does not appear if I rightclick and run as administrator manually. My user account is an admin account.

If I start the game menu listed below instead, I do get an UAC query and I can load the game, albeit with those ads mentioned at the start:
"D:\Apps\Matrix Games\HUCE\autorun.exe"

Can anyone here give some clarity to the above please?

The ads are something that came with Ultimate Edition, with the Digital Military Art collection. I personally just deploy the rest of the windows to cover that window up, since it doesn't really do anything useful in the game except allow you to access the art collection. However, if you want to actually get rid of it, you can navigate to the "C:\Matrix Games\HUCE\DigMilArt" and rename "DigMilArt.dll" to "DigMilArt.dll.old". This will make the ads go away, at the cost of not being able to see the art work.

I got the "Error Code 1x740" message as well, I was able to make it go away by setting the desktop icon to run as admin. I`ve never been able to get a satisfactory answer from anyone as to why I needed to do this. OTOH, that`s the ONLY time I`ve ever been unhappy with the support I`ve gotten, the rest of the time it`s been truly outstanding both here and on HarpGamer, so don`t be afraid to ask as many questions as you`ve got!  [8D]
