End of game report

Post by wurger54 »

After a hard fought year the Axis have thrown in the towel in my first 1 on 1 PBEM game in Sept of '42.

The war started off well enough with Leningrad captured, the front just west of Moscow, Kharkov and the Crimea in Axis hands. The winter was withering with the front being pushed west, but Leningrad, Smolensk, a line just E of the Dneiper, and the Crimea being held. Soviet losses were lower than historical however as he avioded being pocketed on several occasions, most notable was a retreat fromt Kiev once Kleist and 'Schneller Heinz' began to close the bag.

The '42 offensive started out well enough with 44 Soviet divisions being bagged west of Kharkov and eliminated. The Russian moved units from in front of Moscow to plug the hole and maintained his front. At that point the German effort petered out. With no strength left to punch a hole, the German panzers paused for refit.

Gradual Soviet attacks chipped away at German strength so that there was no strength left to hold the static areas of the line and a very slow retreat began.

Since this was a learning game from the start we decided to call it and start again.

From the looks of it, the Germans are going to have a hard time against a human Soviet player that works to avoid pockets and preserve his forces in '41. Well see how round two plays.
