Rail everything out of that pocket that you can, you should be able to save quite a bit. Losing all those units is gonna hurt.

I bought a fort for Leningrad but other than that I'm perpetually out of AP's.

Here's the front lines after I've moved all the Soviet stuff. There's still a lot to move in the Kiev pocket yet.

I've just now upgraded to the 1.04.11 version.  Just in case it makes a difference.

Wow he is close to a very big pocket. One more railine and you wont be able to save anyone near the marsh. Rather bold move on his part his baggage train is rather long and unprotected.

I'm getting all my Stavka reinforcements organized under an Army HQ and replacing Leaders and I bought a fort for Leningrad. Also, I'm doing a LOT of upgrading to better fighters instead of the I-153. I'm going for Mig-3's as a priority followed by the Lagg-3 and lastly the Yak-1. When I run outta those then I replace the I-153's with the I-16 type 29's and the I-16 type 24 last of all. And yes, I'm trying to replace all of them. Also, I'm upgrading the DB-3's bombers with SB-2's. Squeezing the last ounce of performance out of my air force.

Honestly, it is a waste to spend CP's on the air force at this point, so don't. The front line is way too fluid for air bases in many sectors of the front and the Luftwaffe will have just a slightly harder time chewing through your new planes over the old ones.

If he ever gets that pocket cut off, all those hexes that don't have a unit in them (or next to a unit) will convert to German control, making it extremely difficult for them to withdraw to the east.

Those panzers have absolutely got to be tired after full out movement like that. I have never seen a encirclement like that. Interesting that he should try it. Need to get forces on the outside and shove your way through his narrow corridor to try to cut them off.

Good move on his part with the Slovakian motorized unit. At some point, you need to cut some of that crap off and make him pay the price for it or he is just going to keep running like crazy on you.

Yeah, I can see that. I'm going to try to cut it off at the bases of his pincers and try to envelope both of them.

This is the turn 5 front lines before I've moved any Soviet stuff. Gerald has built a gigantic pocket and most of my best troops are now isolated. D'oh.
