Supply unit losses & the AAR

Post by Lieste »

While preparing some files for a possible AAR, I noticed that the loss figures for my force don't agree to the game's AAR figure.

The totals for on-map units in my Excel sheet agrees to the 'General' tab when all units are selected, but the total including all active supply columns is lower than the starting figure less losses.

D1, 00:00 strength 11874 in 107 units, no active supply.
D1, 03:30 strength 11874 in 107 units, 11577 on map, 297 in two active bases (all ok)
D1, 18:00 strength 11704 in 107 units, 11297 on map, 407 in 18 active bases (3 not active - a discrepancy of some 40 casualties, additional to the 128 reported)

Four small bases (Regt and Bn) have been retreated or routed at one time or another, but total casualties from these 'frontliners' were only 21 men so far. (The cost of running with basing off in the face of lots of 50cals [&o])...

One column from Division to Regt was blocked with low losses and 'supplies were cut' - the active strength is then 413, with 147 in columns (a difference of 40 from the starting value of 600)... I don't have the exact wording of this report, as messages aren't included in the save file, or the time that it happened (but should be able to figure it out (with luck there may be a save just before the supply event even...))

So... it looks like the supply "losses" aren't accurately reported in the AAR when the supply line is cut between bases.

It appears to affect the 'enemy losses too' as often the ending casualty figure is less than the total starting strength when all units are eliminated - it is harder to see when a normal victory is secured as the player can't see enemy base activity even in the AAR, so the missing units could be on legitimate supply runs.
