Internet Explorer 7.0+ (for Editors and Generators)

Post by delusan »

I'm curious as to why Internet explorer 7.0+ is required to use the editors and generators. Not a problem really - just curious.

They are programs made with Microsoft tools that require things that are included in IE to work. IE is automatically installed with Windows. You do not have to use IE as your browser.

Thanks junk ... so if I have a lower version IE browser installed, I would need to install IE 7.0+? Again, this is absolutely no problem ... I just want to be sure.

By the way, I think the videos showing the use of the editors are fantastic! A game company that shows you up front what you can expect in using the editors has my admiration and attention!

I don't know if anyone on the test team still has IE 6. I think I was one of the last holdouts. I'd plan on needing to install IE 7.0+ to run the editors.

Thanks

Actually, it works with IE6 as well, IIRC. Stridor did a lot of work after the Kharkov release getting it to be backwards compatible as IE6 is frankly a buggy piece of c**p, no offense intended. I'll double check our notes on that and adjust the system requirements if my memory proves correct on that.[8D]

I'll repeat what I've said in the past about this too. We don't need you to _use_ IE, just to have it on your system. IE includes some system components in Windows that our tools need to use. IE comes with every copy of Windows . You can have installed Windows and never used or upgrade IE and our tools will still work fine. The only issue would be if you used a third party tool to remove IE from your system. In that case, you may be missing some of those necessary Windows files.

We want you to know how to use the editors so that you will help us make the game better. We are all wargamers that have been frustrated at one time or another with some game and lack of instructions. We are trying to be the best.
