RE: The 1609.344 km War
Just kidding. Here is what happened. I moved the subs westward to try to intercept damaged surface combatants returning to PJ. Nassau was joined by an escort of DD's and ordered toward Adak. The RCAF Venturas were moved to Adak. A group of battleworthy DD's and Canadian AMC's stood guard at Dutch Harbor.
The great blow was struck by Captain Nemo aboard Nautilus. He found the damaged Musashi with one DD escort half way between Dutch and Adak (South of the Aleutians). He put 5 torps into the beast (that is 6 torp hits total plus gunfire hits). This is probably a mortal blow.
The Jap CV's closed on the last position of Nassau and found her, achieving only one bomb hit out of >30 sorties. 3 escorts were also hit by one bomb each. Nassau also was hit by a bomb dropped by a Mavis.
Dozens of Allied sorties ranged against the carriers. Zuiho was hit by one torp from a Catalina. Haguro was also hit by a torp from a PBY.
Either, Musashi has already sunk or it is hopeless. Raver conceded the second contest.
It was a fun pair of games. Raver had to push for a raid on Dutch to even the score, but the Allied fighter strength is very substantial by mid game. Also, the Allied ASW and submarine capabilities are very high in mid 43. Much of the damage in both games was done with Allied subs.

Interestingly, Nassau still lived with manageable flotation damage and might have been able to make Adak's fighter cover.

********Action of May 29*************
Evidently, some Jap cruisers still had ammo. It looks like Raver stripped his CV escorts to some degree and sent in a newly formed surface group. The USN crusier force, therefore, faced two attacks at night.
AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR May 29, 43
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Night Time Surface Combat, near Dutch Harbor at 171,50, Range 6,000 Yards
Japanese Ships
CA Tone, Shell hits 1
CA Chikuma, Shell hits 1, on fire

DD Lansdowne
DD Bancroft
DD Frazier
DD Edwards, Shell hits 1
DD Mustin
DD Morris
DD Dewey
Uggh. Wichita sinks from five 8 inch hits? Somebody has some 'splaining to do.
The second fight starts at 1000 yds.
Night Time Surface Combat, near Dutch Harbor at 171,50, Range 1,000 Yards
Japanese Ships
CA Myoko, Shell hits 18, on fire, heavy damage
CA Haguro
CL Oyodo
CL Agano, Shell hits 4, on fire
DD Naganami
DD Samidare
DD Usugumo, Shell hits 6, heavy fires
DD Shirakumo
Allied Ships
CA Louisville, Shell hits 5, and is sunk

DD Lansdowne, Shell hits 1
DD Bancroft, Shell hits 1
DD Frazier, Shell hits 1
DD Edwards, on fire
DD Mustin
DD Morris
DD Dewey, Shell hits 7, on fire
Louisville was already damaged from previous fights and succumbs. Poor Santa Fe forgot to turn off the experimental torpedo attractor. Myoko and Usugumo look wrecked but dont show as sunk (yet). Then the DD taffy that was supposed to attack first shows up and finishes off Usugumo.
Night Time Surface Combat, near Dutch Harbor at 171,50, Range 2,000 Yards
Japanese Ships
CA Myoko, on fire, heavy damage
CL Agano, Shell hits 1, on fire
DD Usugumo, Shell hits 9, and is sunk
DD Shirakumo, Shell hits 1
Allied Ships
DD Caldwell, Shell hits 1
DD Gansevoort
DD Meade
DD Phelps
DD Farragut
When the sun comes up, a few B-24's and Venturas attack the retreating cruisers, but, naturally, dont hit anything. His carriers have drawn back somwhere? I put a few Hellcats on Nassau on naval attack. It makes me feel good but they dont hit anything and they give away her location.
Doh!
Nice info on Santa Fe, haha. I have noticed, maybe it is just me. DD taskforces seem to stack up better against enemy taskforces then do a CA/CL/DD fleet....maybe I am missing something...
Life is tough. The sooner you realize that, the easier it will be.

So, Mandrake - are you going to be posting an AAR in "The Struggle Against the Chickenboy"? If so, when does it start??? [&:]

It'd be nice if he returned my PM and emails first...[:D]
Got your PM. Don't think I got an email. I have been doing battle with the HOA...big time. I looked at the scenario this AM.
We need to clarify if we will be doing variable reinforcement. I would advocate for fixed in the interest of fairness.
I will send you an email when I get home

Fixed replacement is fine by me.
