HQ units have engineering capability?

Post by Fred98 »

In the tutorial is an enginering unit.

We right click on it from the menu we see it can do a numnber of engineering tasks:

Clear dragon teeth
Clear minefield
Emplace bridge
Destroy bridge

Now right click on the HQ unit and we see it can do the same engineering tasks.

Is that correct?

I did a test and moved that HQ unit forward to the minefield and cleared the minefield.

Just had a look at the HQs in some of the other scenarios and they also seem to get engineering ability - which just doesn't seem right

No mention of HQs having Engineering abilities in 6.8 of the manual, in fact it says "only Engineering units can ..."

Think you might have found a bug

It is possible that was an un-documented feature. Probably a carry-over from the old-school binary from 2000?

I'll try and see if I can take a look at the vanilla binary from those days and if that was indeed the case. Perhaps the designer at the time believed HQ's should have a little bit of a jack-of-all-trades deal.
