Defensive "Ground Support"

Post by 76mm »

I don't really understand lots of things about the air war.

For instance, when I am defending, and my planes appear in support, is that defensive ground support, or fighter interception (or whatever it is called)? This matters, obviously, because you need to know to set air doctrine correctly.

In other words, to maximize the planes that appear in support of ground battles in defense, what air doctrine setting should I tweak?

You clearly don't understand the basic math behind the computations driving the air war. Note that a(w+wa) by a(w)+a'(w)*wc-lu is the primary determinant of air superiority, where (a) is the probability of interdiction and (w) is the impact per event. Once you grasp that fairly obvious fundamental you should be able to clear the sky of all enemies and dominate the battlefield! [X(]

Wait, but what about A prime, l, and u? I'm assuming c here is the cosmological constant.[:D]

cookie, thanks for the link but I don't see how it answers my question. The question, I guess, is whether ground support is only offensive, or if defender also get ground support (or only intercept support).

redmarkus, umm, yeah, I guess...

OK, OK, I RTFM, Section 16.3.3.4 seems to imply that Ground Support is for both attacking and defending ground units, so I should increase the air doctrine settings for ground support to get more planes in defensive battles...
