Thank you, AT-gold!

Post by Seynman »

I'm a university student who love wargames very, very much. I used tons of times on them, and my grades are affected. But that's what happended before I got myself AT-Gold! AT-gold has a revolutionary AI speed which is EXTREMLY slow on big maps. Wonder why that helps my study? I'll show you. Basically when I decide to study, I just open my 8GB memory and P8600 laptop, I run ATG, and set the map size to be "unplayable", and 14 players. Then I open my homework, do it, and like 30 minutes later...BANG! The map is finally generated! Then I play my first round, and hit "next turn"...OK, 1 hours later (this means I've studied for an hour...), BANG! It's my turn again! Then I play, I end the turn, I study for an hour, and BANG again... Get the point? This is my way to play and study at the same time, thank you, AT-Gold!

Well, just kidding...I love AT-Gold so much, that's why I still play it even the AI is slow like snails... I read the manual and it said ATG is 100 times faster than original AT... so is my situation normal? Or everyone face this problem when playing monster maps?

There's a new patch out that may help, as loading time was one of the fixes.

Hah - good post. ATGold's AI time is much faster. Similar to you, when playing AT original, I used to do laundry, pay bills, & just generally get on with life. So what do I do with ATGold, I go and design a large map of Europe, assign 8-9 regimes, and now am back at having 7-15 minutes between turns (& only have myself to blame). cheers,
Mike

I had some long wait times with ATWWII in the Global Domination scenario/mod. It sounds essentially like what you describe. I spent a significant amount of time this Winter trying to squeeze one more turn out of it before doing something else. There is always a limit I suppose.

For the size of games I'm playing now, there isn't a big difference in AI speed between ATWWII and ATG.
History began July 4th, 1776. Anything before that was a mistake.

I would get this game but I hate having to rely on other people to make scenarios. And I stink at making them

I tend to agree with the posts above.  I played a large random scenario with a couple of turns in the evening, and it took a few days to complete to the point where victory was assured. With larger maps (I haven't tried the largest yet) and a large number of AI opponents, the wait between turns is still considerable (I haven't clocked them, but it seems in at least the 5-10 minute range). (Still, it is much improved from AT times).

My last computer's motherboard died after a number of years of hard work.  So, a couple of months ago so I got this machine: Windows 7, 8MB RAM, Intel Core i3 CPU (3.1 Ghz).

On the positive side of the Thank You's: I'm totally impressed by Vic's responsiveness to comments on the board.  It seems the iterations have been coming fast and furiously.  (I'm looking forward to the an AI- feature. It'll be interesting to see how it affects those large games with multiple AIs).
