Are there any user MODS for this game yet?
Such as SW : Empire or Rebellion, B5, Battlestar Galactica??? MODS really increase interest and replayability.:cool:

i wish somebody would make a star trek mod. you could make a star wars one too. any number of mods could be made, i mean games like star trek armada 2 and space empires four have huge modding communities why doesnt this one? i have no computer skills, i wish.

i really wish a lot of the stuff was in notepad format, like all the techs and stuff. i wouldnt mind going through and editing the technology names and descriptions, or making all new components for planets and ships. some sorta built in modding tool. for example, holospheres? what are they? they have no real description like some of the other things do but i wish there was more.

as for star trek. i thought it was cool when you had the klingon war ship in there. i bet if you got this game way more commercialized you could make it really shine. say like earth and beyond level, where you could choose the ship type and edit the colors on it and name your government and stuff.

WHY CANT WE NAME SHIPS? is that an option and i just dont know how? itd be cool if you could name ships and see the little name on them. or when attacking ships have damage appear on them like scars and stuff.

maybe change the jump gate wormhole sound to something other than a toilet flushing? ha.

but a star trek mod. thatd be so cool. so easy to do too. itd just be a matter of adding the ships in. say the scout would be the nx01 all the way up to the cruiser being the sovereign class. or star wars with the blockade runner up to the super star destroyer. you could definatelly turn it into a star wars versus star trek mod. now if only there were some modders...................and perhaps a fan website somewhere too!

Holospheres are meant to be virtual spaces that cut down on actual crew space, thereby, reducing the cost of ships.

If you'd downloaded the v1.2 patch then you'll find there's a zip file in the Data subfolder of the game. Read the readme.txt file in the game's folder for how to replace one of the starships by the very Klingon-like starship in the Data zip file.

You can change ship names from the Settings popup (the one with the equalizer levers).

I know that someone had created some mods but failed to let anyone download them.

Andrew-

Is that zip file still floating around anywhere? Or the 1.2 patch? I'm having difficulties DL'ing patches from the Matrix site.

It would be great if we got some mods for this game. I don't know how difficult it is to mod, but probably easier than most I'm guessing.

wow. all i can say is wow. i mean......wow. ive read through all that stuff about how to make the races and ships and none of it made any sense and i sat down tonight for forty minutes and was able to do the following:
1. inserted the robot face into the game, once i figured that out it made the rest simpler i just followed andrews instructions to the letter
2. i inserted the klingon ship into the game! now i can run around the universe with like these klingon ships!!!!
3. ok so personally i was impressed by all that which is pretty um well its not much. i saw in the other post someone had inserted a whole bunch of races and made their own little race picture, so i got out these pictures i had from a mod from space empires four of captain picard and converted them to tga and the right size then inserted them into the game!!! i couldnt believe it when i started it up and there was his bald head taking up most of the menu. then i started playing the game with the klingon ships and the captain picard face.


im going to get about ten race pictures from the different star trek mods already out there, say federation, klingons, romulans and so forth and insert them all into the game change the race names and play like that. now all i need to do is figure out how that **** ship making thing works. i cant draw. and ummmm maybe andrew might be willing to tell us how to change the tech file? nothing big, just edit the names of all the techs. you know......make them more star trek. perhaps ill release a mod. a very poor mans mod but still its something.......:D

Unzip the file in the Data subfolder of SUDG and read the Readme.txt file.

ok so far ive inserted the klingon ship into the game, the race picture for the borg, and the race picture for the federation, i also downloaded movray and povray and played around with both of those. suffice it to say, making ships is nearly impossible unless you have computer graphic skills. all i need is the ships because i know how to convert them into the form i need!!! as for the races, this weekend im going to sit down and see if i cant get all or most of the major star trek races into the game, fed, borg,cardassian, suliban, vulcan, romulan, klingon, dominion, ferengi, and um two more if i can think of them.

and Andrew i tried to open up the datatech folder using notepad, i was able to read all the technologies in there and even edit them and stuff but wasnt able to actually change them. is there anyone i can edit the tech list and change them? if the reason you didnt release that technoligical genie out of the bottle is because you dont want people doing it than i wont try but id like to figure out how, is there a program thatll let me in there?

if there is i think it would be very possible for people to mod this game, making a star trek and star wars mods avaivable along with all the other major sci fi franchises. just need to figure out how to edit tech list. i remember in another post somebody complained about how it was easier to mod space empires iv. ill admit modding that for techs was easier because it was just notepad, but it wasnt easier for adding in races or ship pictures, nowhere near as easy as in starships unlimited!

Well I never really intended for people to mod the tech tree. Unfortunately, it wouldn't be easy to do at the moment. You see, part of the tech data is hardcoded in software and the other part in data files. A stupid design decision, but live and learn, eh?
