Issue with Demo

Post by Ratzki »

D/L'd demo, disabled my antivirus software, ran the demo setup, installed the .net and 9.0c as well as IE, now here is where it gets interesting. Demo will get to the setup screen but when I hit play, screen goes black for a couple seconds then Vista comes back up and the Demo does not run. Tried a couple reinstalls, same outcome.
Just when you think that it is safe to go back in the water, I decide to forget about the Demo and wait for the real thing to come along, so I go to fire up PCK and I get the setup screen and I hit play, and I get a blank screen with the music playing away. I spacebar to quit the intro and I get the below message.

Just a side note, now the PCK editors will not work as well, but first thing's first. What's going on?

Which IE did you install? Did you delete IE before this. IE is not needed to run the game, just the editors.

I don't have Vista so someone else may help.

IE was kind of an afterthought, Vista had been harping at me about an IE update, so after the PC demo install was complete, I let Vista install the latest IE.

I assume you tried the uninstall and reinstall after the Vista update and it still didn't work. You might have to wait until Erik wakes up tomorrow and looks at this.

No problem, can wait.
Yes I did try the uninstall/reinstall. Did both the demo and PCK no dice. Same outcome.
Checked the Regedit to make sure nothing had happened to that .hta line, all was good as per thread in PCK Tech section.
I am gonna go ahead with the demo on my laptop and see what happens there.

there is a different .net setup used for PCO and for the PCO Demo than what PCK is/was using. I don't have any trouble with both games coexisting on my system, but it's Win 7.

One of the Dev team is using Vista I think, and I think one of the beta testers may have as well. It looks like you need to uninstall the Demo, and possibly PCK and then reinstall.

I also doubt that the PCK tools (editors, etc) will work with IE9. They might, I just don't know. I understand that the PCO editors and tools are supposed to work with IE9, though I haven't testing any of them.

sorry for the problems

Is there anything in your log file? Look in the /log sub-folder of your installation for the PCO demo and PCK.

This is most likely related to issues with DirectX, .NET and your drivers. Let's start with a DxDiag please and go from there.

Very odd. They work fine with IE9 as well, so I'm somewhat at a loss to figure out what could have broken them. Let's take it step by step and see what we figure out.

Yes there is something in the log file for the demo, did not look in PCK yet. The log files are quite large, what would I be looking for, or I could email them to you.
Below is the dxdiag

I just looked in the log file in PCK, there is something there as well.
The gamelog file is from the demo

Still cannot get it to go. I will be restoring my computer to a version where PCK was working later on today, hopefully. See if I can get the thing back up and running.

I'm not familiar with Vista, but did you check your system font size and see if they are set to the default, and if not, try setting them to default to see if that helps?

Your err log seems to point to a problem with the fonts in the game.

thanks

Hi Ratzki,

It looks like you somehow managed to remove the Arial font, which is a default Windows font that Panzer Command needs in order to run. Can you try reinstalling the Arial font in your Windows / Fonts folder, reboot and see if that helps?

Another thing to try if that doesn't work may be the following (and uninstall and reinstall afterwards):

Microsoft recommends this tool to remove the damaged components: http://cid-27e6a35d1a492af7.skydrive.li ... p_tool.zip

Thanks guys for all the help. After discovering new ways to string profanities together, I found that it was some form of corrupt Ariel font. The font was working, I guess, and showed in the fonts list. It wasn't until I copied the Ariel font from my laptop and rewrote the Ariel that was already there that the demo jumped to life. Now a quick question, I no longer have PCK installed, will I need it installed for the full release of Ostfront? If I do need it installed, I take it that I do not need to have those check-boxes checked to install Dx9c or .net4?

You won't need to have PCK installed to install the full release PCO. If you have the Demo installed, it should have installed the DX9c and .Net4 stuff you needed.

I'm glad you found the problem and were able to fix it!

Thanks
Rick
