Distant Worlds Gets a Major Update
Distant Worlds Gets a Major Update
Enjoy the fixes and AI improvements found in the expansion via this substantial new update
Matrix Games and Code Force (www.codeforce.co.nz) are excited to release a major new update for their award-winning space strategy game, Distant Worlds. The comprehensive 1.0.7.0 update includes all the bugfixes, mod advances, and AI improvements found in version 1.5.0.8 of the expansion, Return of the Shakturi, but without the actual expansion content.
David Heath, Director of Operations at Matrix Games, said “The 1.0.7.0 update is almost like a dry run for Distant Worlds owners still on the fence about buying the expansion. Although there are a huge number of fixes and improvements brought with 1.0.7.0, this update is just the tip of the iceberg for Return of the Shakturi!”
Distant Worlds is a vast, pausable real-time, 4X space strategy game. You can run the game as slow or as fast as you like, with intelligent advisors and many different settings for warnings and auto-pause triggers to help you manage your empire at your own pace. Experience the full depth and detail of large turn-based strategy games, but with the simplicity and ease of real-time, and on the scale of a massively-multiplayer online game.
Vast galaxies are made to order: up to 1400 star systems, with up to 50,000 planets, moons and asteroids. Galaxies are so deep, fun and immersive that you won’t want to finish the game... Build, expand and improve your empire endlessly. The galaxy is packed with life and activity. Encounter other empires, independent alien colonies, traders, pirates and space monsters. Explore star systems, asteroid fields, gas clouds, supernovae, galactic storms and black holes. Discover evidence of civilizations long since past, uncovering secrets about the galaxy's troubled history...
Best of all, you can play the game your way: enjoy a quick, intense game in a crowded galaxy or take your time in an epic game spread across a vast galaxy!

Can we see a list of changes?

RE: Distant Worlds Gets a Major Update
it should be the same as in 1.5.0.8 but without the ROTS parts. Erik posted the list here

Excellent. As it happens, I was gearing up to play DW again this weekend, so perfect timing!

Do RotS owners have to use this too? Or can we wait until the next update?

IIRC Erik Rutins said they were gonna update vanilla DW, then move onto something special for ROTS.
RE: Distant Worlds Gets a Major Update

RE: Distant Worlds Gets a Major Update
I click the link to get to the download v.1.0.7.0, but there is no hot link for that upgrade. Is there something I'm missing here? Thanks, Bander. [&:]

On the screen which opens up it's under the latest news. You then follow the links.
The easiest way is to use the in game updater for official patches.
You can always follow the links and manually download and install if the in game updater doesn't work.
RE: Distant Worlds Gets a Major Update
Hmm... If this is a DW only update, and I have ROTS, then should my Updater be trying to download and install it (which it is)? If I install it, will it screw up ROTS?
RE: Distant Worlds Gets a Major Update
It should not but better someone from Matrix confirms it.

I've tried every approach and they all take me back to the same page. All the links are active except 1.0.7.0., which is at the top. PS. I've got a desktop, and a laptop, and they produce identical results. I'll check back in a couple of weeks. Bander

Great update! I noticed that automation actually automates everything in this version. Great work and please continue to the updates for us vanilla owners with tight wallets.

RE: Distant Worlds Gets a Major Update
AWESOME DUDE, really really awesome. You seldom see support for the original versions of games, most devs just focus on the add-ons and try to force players to buy the add-on for even the smallest bug fixes/enhancements.
