RBG

Post by dazoline II »

Trying to generate a random battle through the RBG and I can't understand which maps "templates" are which.

The manual states:
DATE: ...
DESCRIPTION: This scrollable text box gives you a synthesised summary of the battle and map conditions prior to random battle generation.
SEASON: ...

I can find a Date field and a season field but I can't find a description field in the RBG. Am I missing something?

The field I think it is is the one with the winter scene with the panzer, which is not left or right clickable and imparts no information to me. Is there another way to find this information out other than opening up the template editor, writing down all the stats for each template and then using the RBG?

I don't want to wait upwards of 5 minutes for the battle to build and find out the map is a 2x2 km dense wilderness when I wanted an open field 500x500 m one.

Thanks.

Left click on the Word "template" a map description should show up in place of the minimpa. But many do not have a map size shown. The bulks of the maps are 1km maps. I could try to put together a list of map sizes and upload if that would help.

Thanks

Hi Dazoline,

Good question. The terrain map on the right will give you a good idea as to the terrain, once you get use to what those color codes mean. As Rick said, clicking on the word "Template" will give you the rest of the description.

Thanks for the answers, I put sorting templates by size in the requests thread.

Eric, I thought colours in a template are random depending on the designers taste, it would take a lot of getting used to all the different designers styles to be able to spot a map and call it "open fields" or "city" or "wilderness". My apologies if I'm mistaken.

I'm pretty sure the map being displayed in the RBG map window is the map PCO uses to interpret terrain (map.bmp). These map colors should be consistent for terrain types.

Thanks

dazoline look in the MM guide and find the colour chart for terrain. See it that matches what is in the minimap in the RBG.

Rick I don't think it does. I think different designers use different colours.

I looked at the MM Guide on Page 49 comparing it to the colours I see in the mini map. I think the plowed fields (the big fields top centre) could be a light brown, I think their a medium green myself but looking at the orange pastel colours in the top left and right (brush), its no where in the guide.

I remain confused.

Yeah I think there needs to be a better way. Since we only had 1k maps for so many years it wasn't a problem. Then as we added other maps we all knew what they were. Now we have people, including us when people start sharing, that have no way of knowing but trial and error.

Ideally the picture would be a birds eye view of the map itself. I did this for the demo map, and I can't recollect if it shows up in the QB as a map or as a color code.

Something to add to the wish list. I think it wouldn't be too tough to do if people like the idea.

Since the Set Battle menu now displays map size, adding it to the RBG should be possible.
