WitE Public Beta v1.04.24 Available!

Gary Grigsby’s War in the East: The German-Soviet War 1941-1945 is a turn-based World War II strategy game stretching across the entire Eastern Front. Gamers can engage in an epic campaign, including division-sized battles with realistic and historical terrain, weather, orders of battle, logistics and combat results.

The critically and fan-acclaimed Eastern Front mega-game Gary Grigsby’s War in the East just got bigger and better with Gary Grigsby’s War in the East: Don to the Danube! This expansion to the award-winning War in the East comes with a wide array of later war scenarios ranging from short but intense 6 turn bouts like the Battle for Kharkov (1942) to immense 37-turn engagements taking place across multiple nations like Drama on the Danube (Summer 1944 – Spring 1945).

WitE Public Beta v1.04.24 Available!

Post by Andrew Loveridge »

Hello All,

A new beta update is now posted in the Members Club, if you have registered your game. It has a new way of graphically showing command links, restrictions on combining some units, and a number of the bug fixes.

Please give it a try, and give us any feedback you may have, remembering that it is a beta, and we expect at least one more set of changes before making this official.

V1.04.24 – May 24, 2011
New Features and Rule Changes [ul] 1) New Interface feature – Added a new hotkey that shows command links for the selected unit, on the map, graphically with lines. Pressing the ` key (just above the Tab key on most keyboards) will cycle through three modes – show no links, show links to all subordinates (blue- units, turquoise – HQs) and HHQ (orange), show links to subordinate HQ’s (turquoise) and HHQ (orange). 2) Rule Change – Restricted recombining/dividing of routed/frozen static units. 3) Rule Change – Restricted combining Rumanian Cavalry units.
Bug Fixes
    1) Fixed a bug in the after-battle report for city bombing. 2) Fixed a bug where Rumanian units were converting to Guards after changing sides. 3) Fixed a bug where groups set to day missions were flying partisan supply missions. 4) Fixed a bug causing German air recon to be very slow. 5) Fixed a bug where HQ buildups were limited to 19MPs from the rail instead of 20 MPs as it should be. 6) Fixed a bug where recon planes were able to fly air transport missions (only transports and level bombers are allowed to fly air transport missions). 7) Editor Fix – Fixed a bug where delayed units were not getting the correct withdrawal seed.
Data and Scenario Changes
    1) 1941 Campaign and scenarios have the 2nd Hungarian Army assigned to Hungarian High Command instead of Army Group South 2) 9th and 10th SS Panzer Divisions in all campaigns now arrive with the Jpz-IV instead of the Jpz-IV(70) 3) 1944 Campaign withdrawals now seeded properly.

Wow, that was a speedy update.  And I just installed the last update!

Great work guys, always thrilled with how responsive you are.

BTW - I saw something weird under 1.04.16 (I had some types of equipment showing up with significantly more equipment captured than were in the pool, but none of that equipment had been used in units yet) - obviously no idea if its still the case.  I will try to remember to see if it still occurs and then report it, where would I do that?

Anyone know where is the new hotkey in a spanish keyboard?

Edit: Never mind the post. I couldn't find the hotkey in a spanish keyboard but I finally did, right to the "p" key.

Takes some work finding it on a non-US keyboard. Just managed to find it on a Swedish keyboard. I had to use shift + ´. It is a bit slow, so you have to wait a little after each try. Also, you must have a unit selected for the results to show.

Just one question: what is the difference between single and triple line?

Just one question: what is the difference between single and triple line?

Theoretically it should be all thick single lines, which are made of 3 thin lines. Due to the engine imperfection it sometimes turns to 3 distinctive lines or single thin line. There is no functional difference.

Going to do anything about play balance?  The Axis seems to be getting the short end of the stick lately, even more so than they did historically (like gee, they had a hard enough time as it was - what with Hitler and all - you don't have to make it even worse!)

I don't see the Axis getting it on the short end of the stick in the 41 campaigns in the AARs. Quality German players are able to do a lot of damage to the Soviets in 41. The Germans did have some issues with High Command indecision, but you don't have to make those same mistakes (but neither does your opponent). [:)] If you mean later scenarios, there have been a lot of changes made already in the past month that could impact balance, although more changes are likely in future versions as we are looking at these scenarios (for both scenario data changes and possible game changes). However, some of the changes we are contemplating will take more time to test and balance, so do not look for these anytime soon, or in the official 1.04 version when it is released.
