Good morning. And good wishes/memories for Memorial Day.

Didn't get a puppy. The Springer Rescue people came up with a perfect youngster, and I fetched him from Birmingham yesterday. Don't know why they thought of me, but they were right on the money. Name was Beau. That didn't float my boat too much, so I added a sylable and he's now Beaudy.

Poor thing was a mess; overweight, bladder stones, dermatitus, ear infections, and hip dysplasia. In and out of adoption several times, nobody wanted to keep him once they found he couldn't go running with them. His foster mom cleaned him up real nice and put him on doggie weight watchers (he's down to a nice lean 45 lbs). The Rescue vet took out the bladder stones, got rid of the dermatitus and ear infections. The dysplasia ain't that big a deal. I don't run, rather I mosey, and I don't mind having to help him onto the bed.

Have had him for about 18 hours now and he's settled in so perfectly it seems like he's been part of the family forever.

Friends, and neighbors, meet Beaudy.

Thought this would be sort of appropriate for Memorial Day. Today we remember absent friends; a day to recall those that were lost and honor and remember their life as it was, and what their existence gave to us.

I often marvel at God's purpose, especially in the least of things. Through loss, there is often gain. Loss seriously adjusts our attitude and, if confronted right, makes us "get it". Gain is the opportunity to take what we have learned and do something positive with it. Such a small thing (in the grand scheme of things) like losing a dog and finding another, has made me think more clearly about my absent friends.

To those who have served and lost companions, my respects and sympathy. Remember them always. All the rest of us are with you in spirit on this Memorial Day.

Regards. John

Hope he works out for you.  Not sure why anyone would subject themselves to more than one Springer though [:D]

Welcome to the family, Beaudy!

John, he may not be good for running with you, but would he be able to swim well enough to lay around on a boat with you? [8D]

He already has. I think because I'm a masochist; he's my fourth Springer. And I've fostered two others. Woof.

Is this rant series aimed at me for having the audacity to butt in to some sort of hollowed sacred ground of elitists? If so just why don't you just come out and say bugger off (I do understand English) and I will butt out and take my comments elsewhere.[:@]

Beaudy says thanks, Uncle Mike, glad to be here. He supposedly loves the water, and that's good doggie osteoarthritis therapy. He's a teensy bit unstable on his back legs, so a dinghy ain't quite in it, but a nice 30 footer should suit him just fine. Once I teach him how to fetch beers without putting holes in the can, there's a couple local 50's that we can play on.

Another Mike, next door, is gonna take us Red Snapper fishing tomorrow, along with his Bassett. Really short season this year. But Mike won the local tournament last month, so I have hopes for snagging some good seafood.

Friends, boats, water, dogs; good times, do indeed set you free.

Did I tell ya I met Jimmy's sister in Fairhope.

Ciao. John

Coming from nowhere, and with no clue what any of this is about, and why it is happening: Buck Beach is deserving of any and every consideration that we can give. I haven't looked at the threads, don't care to look at them, and will not look at them. Buck is someone I respect very highly. He thinks things through, he listens to inputs, he understands: and he's frankly given some damn good input his own self.

Buck follows a different drummer. Sometimes he says things that are jarring, but the Babes people have long since learned to understand where he's coming from and appreciate him for what he is and what he brings to the table.

Patience, my brothers. Buck really is one of the good guys. Think about his comments carefully. They aren't misdirected and are worth considering.

I can't match JWE's fine deed but I commissioned 3 weeks ago a photographer artist to make a series of mounted canine photographs to give as a birthday present to a canine lover. The canines are being photographed from below so their snouts and eyes dominate the photographs. Just received the first drafts today and their are some big personalities on display. Still have to make decisions on the final 3 lucky winners plus how they will be displayed etc.

Back to regular transmission for the denizens of The Thread.

Thanks for your kind remarks John I appreciate them. I realize that this "Thread" is not one that normally has game talk. You have been gone from the other threads for a while and I was snooping you out for your words of wisdom. I don't no why but I responded to a couple of items of interest including your recent loss of your friend.

It certainly won't kill me to not be included in the club of small talk it. My rant was directed at the apparent childlike attempt of a policing of my remarks.

Out of here and thanks again JWE, we'll cross paths out of the confines of this sandbox.

[:D]... I have heard we have Pike in a lake just 30 mi east of us...never tried it...but I HIGHLY doubt there are.

When I were a lad (way back in the 1990s [:'(] unlike most of the old timers here) there was a story that there was a pike living in the local lake. Whilst there were pike there, the creature from the story was supposedly a monster creature that lived in the wreck of a Hurricane that had crashed there during the war. It had also eaten a dog. [X(] Several people were either related to someone who allegedly caught the monster, knew someone who had or knew the person who had their dog (Springer/Retriever/Labrador) eaten by it.

I know my Dad used to catch various fish in the lake, as well as frequent .303 rounds left over from t' war when the area was used for munition storage for RAF Skellingthorpe for a time.

Um...Buck? Can you give us a little bit more information about what you mean? I haven't seen any rants lately that were not originated from or directed at Japan and Ike.

If you're referring to THE THREAD!!! as "some sort of hollowed sacred ground", that's far from the case. Everyone who does not take themselves too seriously are very welcome here. This is our retreat to get away from "serious." Pull up a chair, grab a cold one out of the cooler, and we'll toss another burger on the Memorial Day cookout grill for 'ya.

Hi Buck Beach,

I can only hope that my remarks about the previous loss of your dog were not the cause of your umbrage. If so, I apologize for opening up old wounds unnecessarily. No ill will was intended with my comments and they certainly weren't an effort to 'police' your comments.

I quite possibly misinterpreted the series of rtrapasso's one line posts above, if so I'm sorry.

Thank you for your invite.
