ASL Style Maps

Post by Mad Russian »

It is pretty easy to get an ASL map style look with PCO. Here are some examples.

Nice shot of the Puma, as well as showing how soft you can make the terrain features.

Good Hunting.

Here is what the surrounding countryside looks like.

This shot also shows off the shadows and lighting to good effect.

Good Hunting.

I've been thinking about the single map ASL scenarios. If you want the exact ASL map and not an actual terrain map some things will have to be done to accommodate the ASL's rectangular shape.

An ASL map is 400 meters wide and 1320 meters long. I can make a map in PCO that's 1500 meters on a side. That means if we are going to make a single board battle and use the whole board we will have to make about 2/3 of the MM map unusable for the scenario.

I've done this in the past with other game systems. All that needs to be done is to make the excess terrain impassable. and you can then put the ASL map in place and battle it out.

PCO maps can be made with 500 meter sides, 750 meter sides, 1km sides, 1500 meter sides and 2km sides. All PCO maps are square.

Good Hunting.

Yes, you can use any map that is saved in the Random format. All my maps have been saved in the Random format and are available to be used in Random Campaigns and battles.

What we may need to consider is some kind of a naming format that allows players to get maps that have the kind of texturing they want to see in their random battles/campaigns.

One would hope so.

Besides being brought on the team for my Customer Service skills I think they thought I could make maps and scenarios too. I don't know where they got that idea but I'm not going to tell them any different.

Once the game has been released we'll do some tutorials on how to  make ASL looking maps and how to create those for Random use.

I've have the Hill 621 Scenario Card sitting in my PCO work folder for over a year now. Hill 621 is about 3/4 done -- I plan to go back to it after the game is released. Unfortunately, we didn't end up with any Russian Half tracks, so I'll have to substiture something else.

Thanks
rick

MR,

Is there any scenarios you made that use this map in PCO? I would like to try it out.

Dangerous Information. There are several versions for the different style of play.

edit G for German vs AI, H for H2H, R for Russian vs AI
