RE: THE THREAD!!!
The premise of the book is to document and analyse in detail the last year of the war against Germany on the Eastern and Western Fronts. (mid 44 after the Cobra offensive and romp across France) to V-Day) (The Italian Front is not covered but is mentioned in general in terms of what the Wehrmacht had to commit there during this time.
Hastings often gets accused of bias and of arguing based on hindsight.....a term i have to admit i've always found confusing. (All authors research based on hindsight!) but in this book he has so far pulled no punches in his criticisms on the UK army, sometimes in direct favor of the US view. However as the man himself writes, some of his conclusions about the quality of the opposition go against current Nationalist trends and creates hoots of derision from military forums. Myself....i think he nails it on the head, particularily when comparing armies from Democracies that were inherently anti-military by nature with a dictatorship that indoctrinated war as a fruitful profession.

Anyone catch Hangover 2? Not quite as funny as the first but still a very good laugh all the way through.

Ditto. Enjoyed the flick.

Finally got around to reading Hasting's Armageddon. (picked up a hard copy at a used store for only $8)
Wow......man pulls no punches but the thing i'm really liking, even more than his blunt appraisals is how he makes a maximum effort to cavet and qualify his conclusions so that one isn't left with a typical black and white impression of the war and/or elements of it.
I liked Overlord. Guess there's yet another book to get.

Speaking of excellent books - thoroughly recommend Geirr H Haarr's The German Invasion of Norway. Fascinating. The Germans seemed to get incredibly lucky with elements of Weserübung Nord.

All quiet here - no one around. I think I shall stay on guard in case anyone attempts anything untoward.
