How to "force" Axis countries to join war

Post by michal2099 »

I know that theorerically Romania and other countries must be attacked by Russians and some city must be captured to join the war - but it's unhistorically (...)

When i played 1st time - russians attacked Romania and southern fron joined the war (and also northern airfields - i dont know why).

But it was "testing' game - now when i launched full and fine attack on Russian front Russians are retreating and dont want to attack souther front - so Romanian and other units are just sitting

Is there any way to activate them (even by cheats??)

The Romanian units at the front should active by turn 3 normally, or on turn 2:
if Axis forces control any hex that is both east of hex column 51 and in
a hex row between 89 and 94 (all inclusive), then these forces will unfreeze.

Most of the other Romanian units are frozen for a certain amount of turns. Many Hungarian units will also eventually unfreeze over time, although some won't unfreeze until a central or southern Romanian or Hungarian town is captured.

Is there any way to speed them up? Romania joined to war 22 VI 1941. My Romanian units are frozen in this time. Because many of people here emphasise historical accuracy "against" secnarios "what if" - i hope somebody also ressolved this problem...

The Axis offensive from Romania did not begin until July 1. In the game, the following rules cover this:

23.3.1. FROZEN UNITS, GEOGRAPHICAL MOVEMENT
RESTRICTIONS AND HQ CONVERSION
The Rumanian Front (both Axis and Soviet units in this area) is frozen on turns 1 and 2. Axis
and Soviet ground units in this area can’t move, air units may move and fly missions. During a
Soviet Logistics phase, if Axis forces control any hex that is both east of hex column 51 and in
a hex row between 89 and 94 (all inclusive), then these forces will unfreeze.

If you want to unfreeze these forces on turn 2, on turn one you need to drive south of Lvov and control a hex that meets the conditions listed above.
All understanding comes after the fact.

Hello, similar "problem": in succeeding campaigns (42 or 43) many Romanian and Hungarian units keep frozen. Any chance to activate them or are they triggered by a special event (e.g. proceeeding Soviet Army)?
Thanks

Well Romania and Hungary certainly are in the war then, the problem is they keep some forces in home territories. I am afraid this reflects what historically did happen. Hungary sent a corps to war in 1941, and Hitler persuaded them to send a whole army to Stalingrad. When they lost the Stalingrad army they never really bothered to replace it. For the most part they wanted to be in the winning camp while making the minimum commitment to the war. Only when they were themselves threatened did they commit totally. It may be infuriating, but that is politics. And would have been just as infuriating to the leader of Germany historically.

So yes the frozen units either have a date when they unfreeze or can unfreeze when the enemy comes near enough.

Mmmh - ok, thats what I suspected. The "trigger" is: letting some Soviets to the Carpathians (but in 12/43 I am still near Moscow).
Thanks for clarifying.
