Matrix installer for GS

Post by gerones »

Will it be possible in the future to have an installer for applying GS expansion in CEAW matrix versions?

The new expansion defaults to a Slitherine installation, so you've got to change that if you're a Matrix guy. Once you get it sorted out, it works.

You just need to move the created files from the mod folder into the appropriate existing folders, and it works a treat!

It should work on the Matrix version - just select the folder you installed the game to and run the installer.

It's not that seemless Iain.
The slitherine installer creates a grand strategy mod folder within the game's root folder.
After installation, if you do not manually shift the new files into the existing folder structure, the game remains unchanged.

In our testing it worked without the need to move files. If you point the installer at the correct location before installing it should be fine?

The installer creates a shortcut in the mod folder you can drag onto your desktop. Click on that and you're good to go.

True enough, it's only if you wish to use the pre-existing shortcuts or links to the game.

It doesn't work for me.
The Slitherine launcher opens a command dos box then closes it and nothing starts.
What folder has to be in the Matrix CEAW folder ?
Thx

You must install the GS2.0 expansion to the folder you installed CEAW to. You will have to navigate to find this folder in the installer as the default is the SLitherine install path which is different to teh Matrix install path. This error happens if you install to the wrong folder.

For XP, do not install in the suggested Slitherine folder. Browse to the folder called "Matrix games", usually in c:/ (usually not under "programs"). Inside this are all the Matrix games including CEAW. Click on the CEAW folder as the installation folder. The program will install and there is no need to move any files.

But...During the installation for both XP and Win 7, at some point the black box will stall for about a minute; DO NOT CLOSE THAT BOX until it says that it is finished. After a while the black box will become active again and a lot of stuff will scroll by, and soon it will tell you that the installation is finished. Until that message appears, just WAIT, otherwise the installation will not be complete.

ON Win7, if you installed over patch 6, you might have to remove the scenario files that have "ai" in their names to prevent DTDs on startup as described elsewhere. On XP it was not necessary to do the latter for me.

I reinstalled everything.
The last version of GWS runs fine.
I can't make 2.0 work over a previous install of GWS (1.6).
I reinstalled all the stuff with CEAW and only GWS2.0 without the 1.6 and it works.

You first need to uninstall any older version of GS before you install GSv2.00. However; if you didn't do that there's a way to fix your install without having to uninstall and reinstall everything. See http://www.slitherine.com/forum/viewtop ... 289#228289

Yup, this thing took some figuring out to get installed properly. The main thing is make sure you have the first GS add-on uninstalled, are running 1.12 (CEAW Gold) extract the files to the correct directory. Then enjoy because these folks have done a great job breathing life back into this game.
