CEAW Gold Grand Strategy won't run!

Post by PRUSSIAN TOM »

I have removed CEAW Gold, cleaned related entries from the registry, and reinstalled as follows:
1) Install CEAW.
2) Upgarde CEAW to CEAW Gold with v112 update.
3) Installed CEAW Gold - Grand Strategy with the CEaW_v1.12_GS_v2.0 upgrade. NOTE: I have done this 2 ways...A) Installing the CEaW_v1.12_GS_v2.0 upgarde into the C:\Matrix Games\Computer Europe at War directory (on top of the Matrix CEAW Game, and (more chance of working, I thought), into the C:\Program Files (x86)\Slitherine\Military History Commander - Europe at War GOLD\CEaW - Grand Strategy directory. Both installations gave me an opening screen, but niether would start the game. [:@]

Based on Murphy's Law (or, more fairly, Occam's Razor), the ONLY other way to istall it (into C:\Program Files (x86)\Slitherine\Military History Commander - Europe at War GOLD\Grand Strategy Mod! [8|]

Before I uproot all those related registry entries, directories, and loose icons, please tell which setup is correct, and, WHAT ICON is the one that starts up the game? [&:]

I have included 2 DXdiag files...one regular dxdiag and one where, after launching the routine, I had it run the 64 bit scan. The normal dxdiag is attached to this message, and the dxdiag (64-bit) it tagged onto the topic sent right beching this post. [:D]

I am a BIG Matrix fan, so I amguessing the install upgrade goes into the default directory, but would like a few words of wisdom from the guys who make the big bucks.

After reloading the game and 2.0 twice I have narrowed down the problem to this:

The shortcut is looking for: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Slitherine\Military History Commander - Europe at War GOLD\Grand Strategy Mod\SlithLaunch.exe" There is no SlithLaunch.exe file anywhere.

Sort of like getting a brand new car for free, but no keys. Any chance we can get another downlaod with the SlithLaunch.exe file in it?

BTW I am using Win 7 64 bit if that makes a dfifference.

You must ensure you are installing the expansion to the folder you installed the game to. The default folder is for the SLitherine version - I assume you have the Matrix version so would need to navigate to the correct folder when installing. After installation you'll see a new desktop icon for the GS expansion.

THAT is why I sent 2 dx diag files...when I did a complete uninstall, remored all directories, re-installed CEaW, upgraded to Gold v1.12 (which ran perfectly. I ran the NEW "Strategic CEaW v2 install, and selected the Matrix Games\Commander Europe at War directory. I get as far as the Game Loading screen (which flashes very nicely, but it never stops flashig...I must have a loop somewhere.

Additional info. OS Windopws 7 Dual-core 64-bit IBM processor; NVDIA GE Force 7300 SE/7200 GS Graphics card, 5.0 GB of Ram. I have tried using the Windoows XP/Service Pack 2 annd/or 3 (I tried both)compatability modes, as well as the default selection. The only way I can get any action out of it (the Loading...blink) loop, is by going into the game directiory, and clicking on the CEaW Gold Strategic "run" icon...(the shortcut just puts up the first "Options" screen, and clicking on the Play button brings me back to the desktop!

I know I put most of this in my first post, but I didnt list the OS, processor, RAM or Graphics card. Any Thoughts...I just went back tom playing TAOW 3, so as not to get to burned out.

I am also getting as far as the Game Loading screen and then it hangs. This is with Vista O/S. See screenshot. Looks like a java exception of some sort? I've done a second clean install of CEAW Gold and GS2.0 with same issue.

UPDATE. Disregard. I thought I had CEAW Gold with the v1.12 patch included but apparently not. I reinstalled CEAW, updated to v1.12, installed GS, and it runs fine now.

A huge thank-you to the folks that managed to rub more than 2 or 3 brain cells together, and explained how to set up CEaW Gold Grand Strategy. [&o][&o][&o] I like to think I would have figured it out eventually, but I'm trying to be as non-delusional as possible [:-]. Matrix appears to be a company smart enough to publish dynamite geames, yet wise enough to know that some of us need it explained in one-sylable words [:'(]. As one of those who is usually first to say, "This game won't run", only to have someone point out that I left the computer unplugged, I'm glad I invest my gaming $ in a company who is not above dealing with simpletons.[&o][&o][&o]
