custom scenarios query

Close Combat – Last Stand Arnhem is a highly enhanced new release of Close Combat, using the latest Close Combat engine with many additional improvements. Its design is based on the critically acclaimed Close Combat – A Bridge Too Far, originally developed by Atomic Games, as well as the more recent Close Combat: The Longest Day. This is the most ambitious and most improved of the new Close Combat releases, but along with all the enhancements it retains the same addicting tactical action found in the original titles! Close Combat – Last Stand Arnhem comes with expanded force pools, reserve & static battlegroups, a troop point buying system, ferry and assault crossings, destructible bridges, static forces and much more! Also included in this rebuild are 60+ battles, operations and campaigns including a new enhanced Grand Campaign!

custom scenarios query

Post by Javolenus »

Hi There,

Just bought this game. I think it's great. Got one question about creating custom scenarios: how do you fix the time of day? I ask because, every time I try to create a scenario, it's always a night scenario. I've read the manual (p. 70), where it explains this topic, but for some reason I can only create night scenarios! Please can someone spell out how to set up a daylight scenario? Many thanks!

Date and Time of day are set by selecting the Date/Turn on the timeline at the bottom of the BattleMaker screen. The default Date/Turn is the night turn (0000) on Sept. 17th.

Turn 1 = 0600
Turn 2 = 0900
Turn 3 = 1200
Turn 4 = 1500
Turn 5 = 1800

The chosen Date/Turn can affect the OOB for the battle groups involved.

Hi xe5 and many thanks for the quick reply. Trouble is, when I try to select anything other than the default setting, I get an 'Invalid Battle Data' message. I've tried selecting date/time by clicking on the relevant numbers, and I've tried selecting them with the sliding brackets, but it's the same whatever I do. I even tried creating a custom operation with a single battle, and even though I selected daylight, it still played out as a night scenario. In other words, whatever 'custom' parameters I put into the game editor, it always reverts to default. I've spent over an hour trying different things out, and I've checked the manual several times. Seems strange. Maybe I'm doing something dumb or missing something obvious?

EDIT: Just spent another half hour on this with the same result: no matter what I select, or how I select it, I either get an 'Invalid Battle Data' message or the scenario defaults to the night setting.

Why should I be having this problem? The manual seems pretty straightforward on how to select the date/time for custom scenarios . . .

To create a custom battle:

1. Set the Date/Turn using the "green" (left) bracket. When changing the Date from the default youll usually have to move the bracket twice - first to the date you want, then to a turn on that date.
2. Drag the 2, 3 or 4 battle group icons from their respective 'pools' onto the map "diamond' the battle will take place. If either side has more than one battle group, the top icon determines which battle group is in the front line.
3. Left click on the map diamond to select which side attacks/defends, or to have a meeting engagement (split diamond)
3. (Optional) Hold the SHIFT key and left click on the map to open the Scenario Map Entry Information dialog where you can specify which map entry areas a battle group will use and (optional) how many requisition points a battle group will have.
4. Click NEXT on the BattleMaker screen and name/describe the saved custom battle file.

Hi and many thanks indeed for this. Thanks to your help I've now got my custom scenario working! Is the info you gave me in the manual somewhere? I looked at the manual several times and only found relevant into on p. 70, which states:

1. Slide left bracket to fix date/turn
2. Select map (diamond)
3. Slide right bracket to fix end date/turn
4. Drag and drop battle groups
5. Adjust scenario settings

This is the method I was (unsuccessfully) trying to use, but the info in your post works just fine. And so I'm indebted to you--many thanks again.
