It's done. SMAC has been released today. No Xfire though.

Damn! No expansion pack!

I have to say that I was really disappointed by the lack of Alien Crossfire as well. Hopefully they will also release that soon. I won't have to thinkify about that purchase for very long.

I guess I'm in the minority by not missing Alien Crossfire that much. I didn't think it added that many percentage points to an already 100% game.

All this nostalgia makes me want to fire up Darklands
I have never finished Darklands. I have its box and manual or map waiting for me to play it, though.

The actual alien stuff was hit or miss, but the addition of the extra factions added to the game as did being able to build on water. I actually found my old double CD jewel case with the game and the expansion. Guess I won't have to rebuy this.
Alpha Centauri I think I bought in 1999 was one of the first games I paid for with my own money. Fond memories.

It was the extra factions that came with the expansion that were well worth the money. This is easily my favorite Civ game, I think mainly because of the factions. The interplay between all of the different groups was great fun and really provided countless hours of playability. SMAC was well ahead of its time and in my opinion was far better than Civ 3, which released shortly after if I remember correctly.
