There is nothing in the breifing re turn length?Is there set number of turns in battle.I ended up with a loss at turn 58?

There are no turn limits in PCO. See the section on Victory in the manual. Some battles give the defender a bonus starting on a set turn. If you don't win before then, the defender starts gaining points.

I was taking my time,moving my units through the woods under cover towards objective.Suddenly I lose?This was campaign game.I beleive it was turn 60.

In random campaigns it can give a defender bonus at turn 60 of a very high number of points to the AI so that you will lose.

You can replay the battle, picking up the pace, or skip this battle and go to the next. You can also choose Easy mode if you replay it to give the AI less units.

Same happened to me. I've had two marginal losses at approx. turn 60. You can be methodical on the attack but you can't be too slow. I like this feature of the game.
