Automation

Post by Tony Brooks »

Was quite advanced in a game, some 270 turns and getting fed up manually pushing the transports around sending population to different planets. I saw in one of the tool tips at the log on that you can automate all transports to manage population and distribute them across the necccesary planets. To do this from the Fleet View screen. I couldnt for the life of me find that option? Anyone else know.
I usually do this for each individual transport for a number of turns to a specific planet but this sounds like the automated worker button in the Civ franchise.

There's a button with a stylized "A" on on the right hand side of the header bar for the fleet on the fleet tab. Next to the disband ships button.

Thanks. I assume it just automates that particular transport. Does it also have the intelligence to choose different worlds to move population around from?

Just to clarify, you can select as many transports (within that same star system) at a time for automation as you wish. Otherwise, yes that is correct.

Yes, it does. [:)]

It will try to maximize growth rate; meaning it will move pop to systems with high habitability - notice they might be poor though.
If you need to open build slots in a particular system, auto transport might not do that for you if that system does not have high habitability.
You can play around with the immigration/emigration buttons in your colonies to more or less select which systems to take pop from and which to move them to.

Thanks for the advice. Putting to use now.
One last point. Do I just tick automate and let it choose a system or kick start it by sending it off to a system I select and then let it choose other systems as necessary?

Once a transport is automated, it's good to go until further notice. I can't believe you got that far into the game without using auto. The sheer micro of it would kill me. Then again, I automate most of my planets, too. [:-]
