Morning tithe... I am a happy Chap today, as I just had a meeting with my Cancer Specialist, and the news was all good. Also He had all the results of my latest tests, and it was all good news too. My weight is going up, by blood work is approaching normal, and the tumour cells have gone dormant. So I'm afraid that I'm going to be around to annoy you Guys for a bit longer. [:'(]

Well i spent about an hour yesterday playing around with the Kindle 3. It seemed "archaic" at first using the keyboard after being used to the NCIS:LA inspired touch/wave motion antics of your typical Ipad, Tablet or Nook Color but after a tad bit of fiddling with it, i actually started to like it better. Highlighting is actually easier than doing so on a tablet, at least on the Nook Color which can be buggy at times....that or my fingers are too fat. The additional benefit of the keyboard and page buttons are that you don't slowly aquire a host of fingerprints and smudges on the screen.

Big decider for me though was the eInk Pearl screen. I am loving the no-glare paper like quality of the Kindle and think i will be going with that. Even the Nook Color salesperson admitted that if the primary function was to "read books" as opposed to surfing the net, playing games or reading color Children's books (or color magazines), then the eInk readers are the better option....especially for someone like me who has very bad eye strain and already has to look at a computer monitor 4-10 hours a day. Playing and reading the Kindle didn't particularily strain my eyes but after looking a few minutes at an iPad the fatigue began to make itself felt.

Now.....the big decision maker is whether to go with the 6inch reader at the reasonable price of under $200 or go with the new Kindle DX, the pricey but 9.7inch reader which is more suited to hardcover size. (thinking ahead to the glory days when books like Friedman and Lacroix and Evans/Peattie get digitalized) 6inch is great for paper backs but i'm used to bigger books. $400 however is pretty steep under my current budget. Maybe i should just stick with the smaller reader for now. It's not like any of those other books are available yet in the Kindle library. (though progress is being made....some of Clay Blair's older works are now available)

By the time the types of big books you are used to come out, there is likely to be a whole new line of Kindle's. There's also the weight issue.

This is so very true. You and my pal Laurie are on the same page. She's recommending the 6inch one for now, then when i'm ready to upgrade, she'll take it off my hands. Ironically enough, yesterday at the pub, a gentleman sat down next to me while my friend to my other side was showing me how he reads off his iPhone. This other gentleman had a 6in 1st generation Kindle. He says he loves it. Takes it everywhere. I can't wait to get one though i will miss being able to manually highlight and mark notes. lol. On the other hand.....toting around 2-4 books that eventually get worn and battered from being in a book bag will be a thing of the past. Also liking how eBooks tend to be less expensive. Wish i'd waited to get one before purchasing Hornfischer's "Neptune's Inferno" This book is awful and contains some pretty blatent errors. It certainly does the job of waving the flag however.

What is wonderful news, oldman45-that Leo fixed a typographical error in post 23013? I agree-that's fantastic! [;)]

CB, what to say in response.....

1) I am lazy and didn't hit the quote button.

2) I didn't have any coffee yet when I was reading the forum.

Choices............

I have to go with number 2.
