Air Group Check Box in Air Groups Tab in Editor

In a thread below: "What do these do? Air Groups Index..." it was mentioned that the Air Group check box can be used to create essentaially Carrier Air Groups and maybe(?), as Oldman45 wondered, groups for fighters and bombers.

I've tried asking in that thread but nobody replied so I'll start a new one and ask: does anybody know how to accomplish this?
