A question for the beta players.

Fans of the old Panzer General series rejoice for the release of Panzer Corps. Following in the footsteps of the popular SSI masterpiece and sharing with the General series the same level of engagement and strategic depth, Panzer Corps will keep an unmistakable "PG feeling" whilst improving and refining the gameplay and balance. Panzer Corps will feature 26 scenarios on 21 unique maps, covering most major battles of the European Theatre of World War II and including a few hypothetical 'what if' scenarios based on your actions. Now expanded with a full-war mega-campaign and the Afrika Corps and Allied Corps releases!

A question for the beta players.

Post by stormbringer3 »

One of my all time favorite PC games is Steel Panthers. One thing that I like is the ability to play using different force mixes and still being able to do well in a long campaign. As an example, I really enjoy a campaign where I don't use any armor other than transport. Will you be able to do something similar in a Panzer Corps campaign and still succeed?
Thanks.

You've core units and auxiliar units. The auxiliar units only accompany you during a single scenario/battle, and are reallocated after that. You do not choose which kind of auxiliar units you can have.
However the core units (they are the core of your army), which will travel with you from scenario to scenario, these are mostly chosen by you. These core units are essentially the ones which you decide to buy and upgrade. This means that mainly you´ll end up having the type of army you want as long as you've enough prestige points to buy the units you want.
You can have multiple strategies to win. Of course some are more effective.
Sorry I can't be more specific.

After beta testing, I would not reccomend building a core army of one particular type.

For example, an army primarily made of Infantry units will have a difficult time defeating amored units in open terrain. Also, unless upgraded with vehicular transportation (trucks or Halftracks), they will move very slowly. So, it would be very difficult to move fast enough to capture all of the objectives.

Conversely, an Army top heavy in armored units will have a hard time capturing cities (I.e. Victory Objectives). This is primarily due to the fact that armored units must use their Close Defence value when attacking infantry units located in "non-clear" terrain (e.g. A city).

You'll probably also need some Artillery and /or Air units to take care the enemy's pesky support artillery and anti-air units.

IMHO, this games rewards a combined arms approach. Not saying it's impossible to win with an Army comprised of mostly one unit type, but it will very hard.

Good Luck[:)]
