Despite having played Witp and AE for a number of years now I have never considered if pilots, seamen etc achieve promotions as the game progresses or is this hard coded like the two MacArhur's? For example can a USAAF Lt be promoted to Captn after reaching a number of kills/missions/experience in skills etc?

Thanks

Pilots get promoted, at least.  The Ops log frequently includes something along these lines:

Ace pilot Franklin S. of 51st FG/25th FS is promoted to LTC

You leave a British squadron on training for a year and then look it over. More than half of the pilots will be group captains, squadron leaders or better. Actually, too many but it does not matter much.

My top Allied pilot was a captain to start and after 23 kills died fighting over Darwin. Only then that I noticed that he had recently made Brigadier General. I will miss him.

Like others I have seen the pilots promote. In WITP, I believe I occasionally saw naval and ground co's promote, but have never noticed it happen in WTIPAE. Also I haven't noticed the stats improve like they regularly did in WITP. (I used to use CHannault sometimes as a ground co. to get his land stats up and use his high aggression.
What is the case on the non-pilots in WITPAE?

I just checked a veteran British squadron and half of the pilots are squadrons leaders, or group commanders with one Air Vice Marshall. They were not that way when they started.

Ok i've been searching & haven't came across anything yet so I'll post it on this thread since it seems to be the closest.

So if a lowely ranked pilot gets promoted up to a higher rank & a rank that can command a squadron can you put him in command of a squadron? I've been looking at my pilots names that have got promotions but haven't seen them in the leaders section even though they're at the proper rank for command.

So does someone have any info if this is possible?

Thanks

No, it is not possible. For a pilot to be able to command a squadron, he must also be listed as a leader.

For example:

LCDR McCluskey, C.W. is a pilot assigned to VF-6. He is also the commander of VF-6, as leader LCDR McCluskey, C.

Pilots also listed as leaders will have an * next to their name in the Pilot screen and the Leader screen.

I've got air marhals and major generals populating my squadrons. I'm disappointed I haven't seen any lieutenant generals or air chief marshals yet, though.
