Patches and invalid serial number

Post by WilliP »

I recently decided to play GGWAW again which I had purchased a number of years ago. Having since then bought a new computer, I installed the game with no problem. However, when I tried to run the patches, I got the message 'invalid serial number'. It was the same serial number with which I had done the install. I tried the latest patch and then the oldest patch, but always got the same error. Searching the forums, I find others have had this problem with Matrix games. Can someone please help?

Did you download the patches for GGWAW AWorld Divided (sequel) or the ones for GG World at War (first release)? They're different games with different serial numbers.

I have recently purchased Gary Grisby's World At War A World Divided and encountered the following problems:
Note: I have no computer skills and do not understand computer jargon or systems. I only use the computer to play games. I have been assured by Iain that your reply will be phrased in a way that I can follow.
1) The game will not play in full screen.
2) The start icon will not work.
3) The game is making a spasmodic hissing noise.

For question number one, follow this two steps, once you have selected the full screen mode, exit the game and start it again, it will play in full window mode.

If you're running it under win7 videos won't play, but you'll hear the sound of them. Alt-tabing used to cause the game to crash, though it rarely happens under win7, it does with Xp.

For question number two:
Open the folder where the game is installed, select "awd.exe", right click on it, the select send to: desktop. A direct acces will be created and you can start the game from it:

As for your third problem, I can't really help you here, try upgrading your sound drivers.
