I don't understand

Post by invasion »

Hi
I don't know if I'm in the right place for this, but in the expansion of the game

"Why can I chose between Bombardinng a palnet, invading a planet or simply turning the entire planet into a debre field.

Why can't I organize fleets into various cohesive battle formation design, I should at least be able to that. Maybe I can, because I don't know the full potential of the game yet.

Also, why isnt there any empire boarders, no empire ships should be allowed to cross the boarder of an empire without treates or something.

Again, not matter what I do in the options menu not mine in other empires sector, the mining ships go any, thats stealing another empires resources and that will start a war.

Why isn't there any seriousness in deplomacy. I'm saying there isnt, but it all looks a little to foolish when it concerns communication between empire.

Maybe Im on the "Why" too much, but this game is too big to do so little, maybe Im over reacting and want to much, but it would be nice to have strategics locals such as planet, occupied asteroid fields and military space stations that simply must be taken or destroyed before any deeper penetration into enemt terrioty can be established

Alright, I admit Im just a pushover, a beginner at this game, but what Iv already played concerning the game, its monstrous, compelling, imaginative and gripping, but with a game this nice, to be missing the basic elements of battlle tactics, empire boarders, obvious warships necessary in any fleet .... is unsettling, but not enough to push me away.

[&o] Oh massa ... may I please have a goo abd better game

Some answers:

You can annihilate planets with "right tools". Namely the "death-star" and secret super beam tech that you can sometimes find when exploring. Though many races don't look kindly at destroying invaluable habitable planets.

Empire borders is a hot topic now that a new expansion is coming. Borders are most likely to be a new feature in it.

Civilian ships don't start wars or cause relation drops from what I know. Contested planets or bases on the other hand do. It's always good thing to check that in diplomacy window.

Better and deeper diplomacy has been requested a lot. Let's hope the new expansion enhances it.

Nothing is impossible, not if you can imagine it!

Imio:

From what I know the border system was introduced in the return of the Shakturi. The AI now attacks the systems which are closer to its own, and expands its empire by colonization or invasion in a systemathic manner, rather than capturing one planet from each corrner of the galaxy. As far as borders go in a game like DW, your territory is confined to the systems you own. It is rather unpractical to claim vast empty space between them, as it is simply to big to monitor, leave alone patrol or defend. And who cares if an enemy fleet is sitting in the middle of nowhere wasting its fuel? Probably that's the reason why your galaxy map is not cut like a colourful fruit cake and divided by neat lines.
Battle formations would weaken your fleet rather than strengthen it. Its better if smaller ships can fly around the battlefield engaging weaker and keeping out of range of stronger enemy ships. Note, that the fleet formation would be broken upon enemy conntact anyways (best demonstrated in games like Homeworld 2 or Sins of Solar Empire)so whats the point on introducing it to the game?
Yup, the diplomacy could use some more depth, but it is not an easy thing to improve considering the overall complexity of the DW already. Mind that game engine is busy as a beaver already, controlling hundreds of civillan and military ships across the galaxy map, without having to make complex political situation assesment for every single empire in game.
Play more, I'm sure you'll understand :]
