Panzer Corps vs PGF

Fans of the old Panzer General series rejoice for the release of Panzer Corps. Following in the footsteps of the popular SSI masterpiece and sharing with the General series the same level of engagement and strategic depth, Panzer Corps will keep an unmistakable "PG feeling" whilst improving and refining the gameplay and balance. Panzer Corps will feature 26 scenarios on 21 unique maps, covering most major battles of the European Theatre of World War II and including a few hypothetical 'what if' scenarios based on your actions. Now expanded with a full-war mega-campaign and the Afrika Corps and Allied Corps releases!

Panzer Corps vs PGF

Post by Rosseau »

I know, the excitement is building for PC release. I never knew about Panzer General Forever until a few days ago reading this forum. That is a pretty nice package, especially for the price [;)]

I know PGF has no polished editor, but text files are editable, etc. I love you guys, but am going to need a little convincing on spending $40 for the new game. In particular, because I never was a PG fanatic. I liked it, but it seemed more like solving a puzzle than tactics to win in the older games.

Thanks, and much success!

Try Multi-player. That is where most games are at their height.

Yeah but even human opponents seem to follow the AI MO of packing units in around the objectives and holding out till time expires, the rest of the map goes largely unused.

Doesn't that fit how real operational tactics work![>:] What we need is some other objectives, like perhaps key bridge locations or a crossroad, how about a map edge to exit units off of?

Something to make the rest of the map relevant.

I am buying mine for the editor and multiplayer portion to be honest. Creating custom things and playing friendly matches against opponents is what will make this game great for me.

Every game released these days has people who need "convincing" so I guess check out videos on Youtube when it releases to see how it looks for you.

Thanks for the comments, guys.

If I had the time and commitment for MP, I'd be playing other games. So this would be SP only. It "looks" beautiful. If it plays like SeaMoney hints at, it will get old quick. If you can set various objectives with the editor, it may hold promise.

Guys, check out our multiplayer entry of dev diary:
http://panzer-corps.com/2011/06/panzer- ... ltiplayer/

It should give some idea what MP looks like.

To answer the original question in this thread, the reason to buy Panzer Corps is the same reason why people buy sequels in the first place. Why get Civilization 5 or Heroes of Might & Magic 5 when you already own previous version? ;)

For me there is no going back to playing PG/PGF after I spent last months with PzC. Graphics and effects are so much better, unit balance feels just about right, UI is much friendlier, there is a seamless and comprehensive multiplayer, there is a full-blown WYSIWYG map and scenario editor etc. In addition to this, you get a brand new campaign to play (26 scens), a separate tutorial mini-campaign (6 scens) and 10 scenarios created specifically for Multiplayer. This is a lot of new content.

Everything Rudankort says. PC is a beautiful and challenging game. You will never go back.

Yeah ...yeah...whatever....just tell me...does the AI pack units in around the objectives?[8|]

Tell me you don't go from one spot to another against the clock with the same old cookie-cutter approach depending on the defending force mix at the objective, especially after the initial breakthrough.[>:]

Cant speak for the AI but if you think i'm just gonna sit around and pack the objectives while waiting for the enemy... think again. Cut off approaches, defend in depth, fall back positions, spoiling attacks... and yes, if you get to our last town, We'll be waiting there too [:'(]

Well there is no point in discussing this with you because it appears you have made up your mind.

I'm not asking for a lawyer's closing statements, just a simple "yes" or "no".  Does the AI tend to build units and pack them around the objective hexes?  Yes (check or circle) or No (indicate please).  And yes soldier, I'm looking forward to the H vs H scenarios, I'm buying the game, but I would like to see the AI commit to a continuous front(at least semi-) like IRL, and react to the players actions.

And while you're at it, I'd like a young, big breasted, intelligent, blue eyed, bombshell blonde too. To go please...

I went to the website as Rudankort suggested. It does look sweet. I just hope there exists a human opponent as weak as I. Sold!

How dare you accuse me of anything associated with a lawyer. [:-]

In my experience the AI does a good job of blocking the approaches to objectives. It also does a very good job of counter attacking in places I least expect. In the end, however, if one is closing on an objective it should be expected the AI would concentrate forces. Sometimes it does this better than at other times.

There, that is as clear as mud.[:D]

My sincerest apology for the "lawyer" comment parusski, didn't mean to lump you in with the "bottom" dwellers, which includes the politicians as well.

I agree with your enthusiasm for this game, which now means that you are associated with a lawyer
