Does this scenario exist?

Post by usersatch »

I was having a "what if" moment and thinking about an interesting scenario where the IJN/IJA have a ring around Pearl (Midway, Aleutians, Palmyra, Line Is., Cook Is., Fiji, etc) are all heavily occupied. Australia is essentially on its own. It's early 1944 and the US has a couple of Essex CVs ready to go to Pearl to reinforce and go on the offensive.

Is there a custom scenario out there that's anything like this?

Thanks

Well, considering that you just thought of it, chances are you'll have to make the scenario yourself...

Better to ask prior to reinventing the wheel.

Usersatch,

Building something like that is a bit of work, especially if you've not done one. There is no "stock" scenario I know of to model off of.

The editor is pretty straightforward to use once you read the prospectus.
I'd start with setting base control and then export all the units to excel and assign locations / remove them. upload that back and then begin testing. Alternately, you can set each unit one at a time through the editor.

Dont forget to set the dates of the scenario.

I estimate this is 50-100 hours work, assuming you are not going to do any other edits.

I didnt know you could export into excel and modify...that's wonderful!

I think I've got the basic concept, from a little practice, of how to set up units and bases, etc. My biggest concern is setting up the AI to follow my "strategy" AND setting up the Allied/IJN reinforcement schedule(s).

A few general questions and thoughts before I even think of undertaking such a task:

I was thinking of taking the recent 1942 scenario developed (to account for all the mind-numbing Japanese stuff that occurred in the PI, etc. right after 12/7/41) and modify it to adapt to my scenario.

--Can/should I use ficticious units to occupy the "new" islands, such as Midway, Fiji, etc.?

--Or should I take existing units from "non essential" areas, like Manchuria, PI, etc. and reassign them?

--I was thinking of turning Fiji into Truk Part 2...makes sense?

--Can I set the AI to play a defense only role for the eastern units?

--If I set the scenario date for November 1943, for example, do I just stockpile all of the 1941-1943 Allied units at mainland American bases?

--If I set up a number of new bases (Fiji, Palmyra, etc.), does the AI "know" how to resupply them, or do I have to set that up?

I don't mind investing the time and effort into developing the scenario, it's my lack of "editor knowledge" that concerns me.

Thanks for any words of wisdom/encouragement.

Quite lots of players are interested in possibility of Pearl Harbor invasion. You should probably seriously cut the map (I would say without whole Asia, DEI, and Australia, maybe even Japan).

Actually beginning at Midway invasion could be interesting. If successful, that should open way for further conquests of Hawaii, and Fiji.

I think I am going to borrow Nikademus' game and modify it, provided he doesnt have any objections...

I have started to play around with it...editing seems pretty straightforward, but damn tedious.

I am starting at 1/1/43 with the IJN occupying PH.

How do you export and import the data? I don't see any menu item to do that.

Same thing, different post:

Just make sure you have a pad of paper and a pencil handy...it doesnt take long before you lose track of things in your head. Or maybe that was the Jim Beam...
