WITP-AE 1.01.06i accessing Internet

Post by msieving1 »

I just got around to installing version 1.01.06i, and since the install my firewall is giving me warnings that the War In The Pacific Admiral's Edition executable is trying to connect to the Internet. Is this normal behavior? Why would the executable need to access the Internet during game play?

The "War In the Pacfic Admiral's Edition.EXE" doesn't do any direct connection to the Internet.

Is it a pirated version? Lots of pirated software has trojans in it.

no, my original version tries to access the internet when I play at my wife's parents house. I think it's a matter of schozoid anti virus software and can be ignored.

It could be bad anti-virus, or it could also be that the original was infected by a virus which attached itself to the file and tries to get to the Internet.

Not unless Matrix Games is distributing pirated versions.

It's not unheard of for commercial software to ship with malware attached. Hence my concern. The next time it happens I'll note the IP address it's trying to reach. I scanned the file and found no viruses. It's probably nothing, but I like to be safe.
