How many places on the map have you played?

Post by rockmedic109 »

I just added another city to my list of places played {Chattanooga, TN}. While thinking about this, I started thinking about the places on the map that I've played.

Sacramento
Lahaina
Shanghai
Changsha
Canton {now Guangzhou}
Hong Kong

I hope to be adding whatever now is Beijing to the list and another daughter to my family later this year.

I have also played at a non-dot hex, three hexes north of San Francisco. The rock in the middle of the cove still has a ring that was used to bring logs down off the cliff {and after the earthquake, granite} to awaiting ships. Obviously this is over looked and should qualify as Port size of 1. If only to add Ocean Cove to the map and the list of places I've played.

Where has everyone else played?

I have played in the southernmost point on the map!
As well as the small town about 20km south of it!

(Whoops, Port Stanley might be further south???)

That's a tough one, since I've played many places on the road (most of which probably are NOT on the map).  Also, in many cases I may not have played in the named point, but certainly within the hex (example: San Francisco is only 7 miles square, so its hex should cover down to San Carlos or Redwood City -- I've played in San Mateo, certainly within the hex).

Considering whole hexes, I can at least say San Francisco, Stockton, Portland (US), Seattle or Tacoma (I live between them, but don't know which hex I'm in!), Pearl Harbor, and Great Britain.  Can't check the map to see what others because the game doesn't like to stay open if I've already launched both Firefox and Thunderbird (it plays nice with one or the other, but not both).

I've played the game in one city: Rome, Georgia.

The only cities I've been to that are on the map:  Salt Lake City and East Coast.  Oh, I've been to "Canada" too.

P.S.  I'm a sad travel puppy.  When everybody else is goin' to Fiji or San Fran, I go to Cedartown or Ringgold.

Same boat...friends talk about going here and there, and overseas and crap. Did a bit of that in college. We travel to Colorado or Kansas City...

Having now looked at the map and been reminded of where it cuts off, I can say I've played in Eastern US (since that seems to cover everything east of the Rockies)! [:D]

I've been to many of the places, even a number of the bases in Burma, and dove Truk back in '98, but have only played the game here in Seoul. It's one of those peculiarites of mine: no computer while on vacation and no gaming while on business travel. BTW--I toured the Bataan peninsula, including the death march route, a couple of days ago and will see about posting a mini-travelogue here.

Cheers,

that is a LOT of hex coordinates! Almost every hex in SE Australia, E Australia, southern SA, Darwin, Arnhem Land (around Gove), PNG, NZ, a bunch of Pacific islands, a few of those dots in the Indian Ocean, several in Asia, a bunch in USA and Canada, UK, ......Sorry, if i'm going to spend that long poring over the AE map i might as well be playing a turn!!!

As most of the guys before me have said, i've been to many of these spots, but only played a few. Or maybe a few more than a few? Do airport departure lounges count? Yep, see that diligently industrious looking guy in the corner - looks like he's working real hard? Thats me playing AE!!

I only play in 2 spots in the U.S.  However I've been to several spots on the map but before even WITP was published.  I've been to Japan (Yokota AFB, Kadena AFB), Philippines (Clark AFB), Alaska, Hawaii, Guam, San Diego, Seattle, Catalina Island, Los Angeles, Las Vegas (Nellis AFB).

I only wish I could have had time to tour in the Philippines and Japan but was in charge  for a while so it didn't work out.

I played in a lot of spots in the pacific, care of uncle sam.

Guam and UTapao Thailand in 72,73,and 75 care of SAC and Arc Light-Bullet Shot deployments as a B-52 gunner. With bombing missions to Vietnam, Cambodia, and Laos, including the 11-day war (Linebacker II over Hanoi).

I was home based at Sacramento, Mather AFB, and from California. Survival school at Fairchild AFB, outside of Spokane.

In the 77, I PCS'd back to Guam, married a lady from Mito Japan north of Tokyo. I lived in Mito for a little bit in the mid 80's when my wife became sick and wanted to go back to Japan.

While in SAC after the Vietnam war we flew training missions over Korea and Australia out of Guam. And some sea survaliance missions in the Indian ocean looking for soviet warships. This was the only peace time mission where we flew hot,(armed). My guns were always hot on these missions. Loaded 0.50 cals M-3 machine guns.

Stateside in the Airforce (SAC) I went from Lackland AFB, to Fairchild AFB (survival school). Then to Castle AFB, B-52 CCTS, then to my home base at Mather in Sacramento.
With TDY and deployments to March AFB, Riverside Ca, Beale AFB. Marrysville, and Carswell AFB, Ft Worth Tx. Jungle survival school at Clark AB in the Phillipines.
Vacationed in Taiwan, Japan and the Phillipines. Passed thrugh Hickem AFB many times while we were flying B-52's back and forth accross the pacific, (refueling stops). also a few typhoon evacuations into Kadenia with our B-52 when a typhoon was hitting Guam.

Currently living in Fairbanks AK, for the last 10-years, just retired from federal civil service FT. Wainwright, and from the State of Alaska.

Before the laptop, we used to live in the San Francisco Bay area but we traveled all across the state so I 've been to all the bases in California plus at least through many points East. We were also on Oahu(PH) and Kauai.

After the laptop, Melbourne, Geelong, Canberra, Sydney, Brisbane, Bundaberg and a small Island on the Great Barrier Reef not shown on the map. Then visited both hexes of Guadalcanal plus the Nadi hex of Fiji.

Let's see...San Diego, El Toro MCAS hex, Port Hueneme hex, Fort Ord hex and some unnamed hexes in Calif.

Also does Las Vegas have a base on the map? And Eastern US.
