How tell Core

Fans of the old Panzer General series rejoice for the release of Panzer Corps. Following in the footsteps of the popular SSI masterpiece and sharing with the General series the same level of engagement and strategic depth, Panzer Corps will keep an unmistakable "PG feeling" whilst improving and refining the gameplay and balance. Panzer Corps will feature 26 scenarios on 21 unique maps, covering most major battles of the European Theatre of World War II and including a few hypothetical 'what if' scenarios based on your actions. Now expanded with a full-war mega-campaign and the Afrika Corps and Allied Corps releases!

How tell Core

Post by lparkh »

Hi,
I'm staring at the Poland scenario as a past PG players. I'm presuming not every single unit is core. If so how can I tell? I am not detecting any shading etc.
It would be nice btw if the library entry for a given unit could be reached directly from various logical places: details of the units, build screen etc.
Thanks,
Lin
p.s. can I edit unit names? that would sure be nice. Can't figure it out :-)

You have a manual that contains all this info though.

Renaming hotkey Alt+N

Full hotkey list and art have a look in the Library, Library can be entered and left in game through the Game Menu button on the main UI

Core Units have a thick shiny golden border around their strength plate, auxiliary unit a thin silver border.

Thanks!
I would still integrate the library into things a bit more rather then have to go to special interface :-) And going from a unit would naturally bring you directly to file on that unit rather then a further search withing the library.
Friendly thought.

What exactly do you mean by "integrating library more into things"? :) We do have some info integrated into the game, like some hotkeys are shown in tooltips for various UI elements, stats and weather info is invoked by clicking on them, and purchase screen shows unit class descriptions. But things that did not get anywhere else were placed in the library. Any specific ideas how to improve this are welcome.

Well thanks for asking. Maybe I'm missing them but my thoughts were:
1) On the purchase screen -- there's a lot of blank space there (at least on a a 1900 pixel monitor) where the unit info could go. Failing that I'm simply suggesting a button there so I can jump to the history and read about the unit for interest sake while contemplating buying it. Right now my impression is instead I need to: 1) exit the purchase screen, 2) click the library button, 3) find the unit history (i.e. library entry)
2) when right clicking for general info on the unit -- there should be a button right on that popup interface to allow me to jump to library entry for the unit.

One other suggestion.. it would be nice if you could see a "move and attack" with your mouse. Seen this I think in games like Fantasy Wars (a Fantasy General clone). So I select a unit, move mouse over enemy ..se probable outcomes..and then click. This means.. move adjacent and launch an attack. Right now it seems I need to move adjacent and then click to attack. I know this is a small detail but a strength of PG is its flow and this might help flow.
Thanks for listening.

About this, the question is, how it will work for:
- ranged units
- bombers
?

Good points but you could manage by default behavior/expectations of the player:
-- ground unit (infantry/armor) -- move and attack as described
-- artillery -- will shoot at from a distance as default (how often does one want to assault with an artillery truck :-). Could shift click to force it if needed. but doubt would ever be needed (maybe if my artillery was in an armed half track) :-)
-- air -- move and attack as described unless shift key (to turn off).

So of course now not everything works exactly the same but that *might* be ok as long as you aren't violating what players typically want to do. But bottomline is unit does want you want 90% of the time and shift handles the special case. Still I can see the virtues of consistency as well.
