Download Issues

Post by mgarnett »

What on earth is going on with Plimus.

So far, my download has been running for 21.5 hours and I still have 40 megabytes to go! Never had an issue before. In the time its taken me to get 388 megabytes, I've downloaded about 9 gigabytes from Gamersgate and Steam.......ridiculous.

Cheers

Yes I have purchased a lot games from Matrix, but only 1 or 2 since they're been using Pilmus. Along with their questionable currency converter and painfully slow d/l I think it is time for Matrix review its arrangements before they start losing customers.

Sorry you are having problems but this is very unsual. Most people never have a problem. Most peope have reported an improved service from Plimus but a few have been unlucky and had slower rates. Overall the service is better than DR. If it is that slow it would probably be better to restart as it sounds like some connection between you and the server is very slow and restarting will choose a different route and likely be much faster. The servers are running fine and able to cope with the load so its not an issues at the server end so it must be a link in the chain, but unfortunately not something we can fix.

Iain, sorry I have to disagree yes DR wasn't flash, but in my experience it was a quicker service than Pilmus. My IP provider has recently upgrade its service in my town the d/l speed has generally double, however my experience on one games d/l ATG the spend still isn't great.

Thats the issue - for some people there were significant issues with DR. We have far less people who have issues with Plimus but they are different people. I don't really understand how/why this happens. All we know is the servers are widely distributed and very powerful so able to cope with demand. The issues come when links in the chain to the servers are slow for whatever reason. We do what we can to help but in these situations there isn't much we can do unfortunately.

Gotta hate technology. This new upgrade I spoke about is suppose to offer 20 M/bs actually giving me about 8 on a good day. The sad tail is, according to the tech gurus I am theoretically the optimal distance from the exchange not too close to get interference and too far away to have the signal degrading yet I can't get half the speed. Really sad isn't it.

I had the same download problem on Panzer Corps. Eventually, after some counsel from Eric, I cancelled the download and went back into Plimus to start it again. From the Plimus download (reached via Tech Support web page), I discovered there is an option to use American server European server. I tried the American server and got the same slow (read never would start) download problem. I then tried the European server and, voila, the download proceeded. It wasn't fast (800 or so) and took 11 minutes to download but at least it got there.
