Crash During Installation

Post by Babubaer »

Hi,

I get always the same Error message when i try to install the game:

"Encountered a sharing violation while accesing e:\Games\Panzer Corps\Panzer Corps\Graphics\Units\QF_2_pounder.png"

than the setup is hanging off completly. All Windows Programs are offline same for Virus Scanner.

Hi Babu,

That's quite odd. Are you installing with an administrator account? What are the permissions on the E: drive where you are installing? Have you tried "retry" or skip on that error to see if the install proceeds?

This is most likely either some kind of third party software interfering with the installer or a permissions issue of some kind. The final possibility is a corrupted installer, though that doesn't seem as likely.

Could you post a DxDiag with your system information please?

What kind of anti-virus/security software do you have installed?

Regards,

- Erik

I've experienced the same problem during installation on a WinXP Home PC. The file that triggers the sharing violation seems to change during different attempts.

I tried disabling all software (Anti-Virus etc) I had running resident in the background, and making sure all indexing of the drives were disabled. Still happened, no matter what drive I installed it on (and I have two).

However, a workaround which has worked for me, was to run the installation EXE under Win95 Compatability mode.

In Windows Explorer, right click on the installation file, select Properties, and then the Compatability tab. Check "Run this program in compatability mode" and make sure Windows 95 is selected in the drop down box below it. Click Ok. Then run the installation EXE by double clicking on it.

Installation succeeded after that, and I was able to run the game fine.

Thanks Spelk,

We didn't run into that issue on our Windows XP SP3 clean test system, so I'm surprised to hear about it. Babu, are you also running Windows XP? Can you give Spelk's solution a try and let us know if it works for you?

We'll investigate here as well.

Hi Erik,

Yes i have full admin rights, all Programs are disabled and no virus scanner is online. I have "Avira Antivir Premium". There is no possibilty to retry in the setup if the installation fails.
I must shut up the setup with the task manager.

Yes i have Windows XP with SP3 too, but the Professional Edition. Buildt 2600
After i have tryed more then 8 Installations on different pathes and suddenly the setup was running, but i have no idea why.
I buyed a version for a friend too, he has also Windows XP with SP3 Professional. I will phone with him this evening, we will see if the installation is going on his pc or not again.
He has a copy from my download file.

Thanxs Spelk for the workaround! We will try it, if the setup fails again.

Erik: your mailbox is full, so i cant send you the dxdiag log.

Hi Babu,

You can post it here or e-mail it to me at erikr@matrixgames.com.

We'll see if we can duplicate this with Avira installed.

ok we have installed the game on a PC from a friend with a new Serial:

Same Hardware, same Software like my PC. Windows XP Professional with SP3 Build 2600

He doesnt have the error. The setup is working, so it is definitely not a problem of a bad download.

It may be coincidence, but I have Avira on my PC. Although I turned it all off for the installation (I didn't uninstall it though).

Definitely try the Compatability mode - it worked for me, and I've been playing Panzer Corps without any problem since.

I never had this problem with Avira which was still completely enabled during installation and btw, I use the latest (free) version of Avira.
