The Enemy of my Enemy... (Viking No2 vs. Irinami)

Post by Irinami »

Colonel Zhou gripped his Mauser tightly. Ever since birth, he'd felt an ancient connection to this land. It was when he joined the National Army that he realised just what it was, and took on the name Zhou Yu. That had been his past life.

Now the usurper Dong Zhuo was reincarnated as Mao Zedong, and his Lu Bu was Stalin... only this time, Lu Bu would not be wooed by a beautiful woman, no sword stood in the way... and this Lu Bu was gifted with a terribly crafty mind.

As the sun beat down on nearly a Battallion of soldiers, Zhou stepped out from his command tent. "You," he shouted, his voice still strong despite his age, "Are all dead men. The day you lifted arms for your nation, you gave up your life. Tonight you will write your letters and weep your tears. In the morning you will stop."

Zhou turned his face northward. "In the morning we will march across that bridge. The moment our rearguard passes, the KMT engineers will destroy the bridge. There is no turning back. In three days we will have reached our destination. There we will assemble for the attack on the Soviet invaders. By the end of the week...

"... even the cowards among you will be dead." Assured of his Platoons' resolution, Zhou only needed to motivate the KMT attachment of Weapons teams and tanks. His men knew that, resolved that they were already dead, they would fight with the fierceness of ten men.

What few radios they had were surprisingly quiet. The air was not. Engines far off could be heard, and were answered in kind by engines of the KMT's tanks. Then, after some sharp snitches across the radio net, the first signs of a war started.

Thump... thump-KAKOW, thump... KAKOW...
Japanese knee mortars split the air, and between their bombs firing there could be heard the sound of a rifle going off. Two Russian scouts quickly understood that the rounds were falling in their direction, especially after the angry hornet buzz of a round going past the pointman's ear.

A few more mortar shells fall on the scouts. 2Lt. Feng sneered. He could tell where the scouts were, from the shouts. "Cho, belt." With shaking hands the young conscript double-checked the belt.

"Ready--no wait!"

It was too late. A single .50 BMG round flew downrange, followed by a shriek. Cho's finger was caught in the feed mechanism, and the subsequent rounds in the belt were shorn.

A minor injury, maybe Cho would lose the finger. But it was enough to put that gun out of action.

Inaccurate Soviet Platoon mortars perform the jobs of lumberjacks, chopping down trees in the middle of nowhere.

The enemy has shown up in the village we have been tasked to defend. Advance elements have come under fire. He is also trying to flank us on the north side, as other advance elements have shown.

Platoon commanders can also attest that his mortars have gotten to be sniper weapons with regards to their accuracy.

(Edit: Had the wrong zip. Fixed.)

One of those huge Soviet tank monstrosities is spotted, but it quickly flees. Some brief, pointless firefights break out as the sides test each other. Mostly, it is stumbling in the dark.

Mortars on both sides become more accurate, and Col. Zhou uses a Knee Mortar section for area denial. Another KM section malfunctions after a handful of shots. Dammit! Stop smoking opium in the tubes!!

Man... my only good news was that I hit the horse-drawn MG you were sporting. Didn't kill it, but I did some damage.

Not a lot going on. Some firefights, mostly in the north. That Tachanka (towed MG) is drawing a LOT of fire, comrade. ;)

I took out a truck during opfire... which is sorta' bad: Didn't get to see what it had. Ah well, that just means my 'Zook team is fast. :D

This appears to be The Push.

The Chinese M-4's make their moves. In the south, an M4 chases down a Tachanka and a truck, thus eliminating some reserve Soviet mobile firepower.

One, sadly, in an effort to aid the central section, stumbles upon a Soviet Guards ambush. The fuel and magazine go up in a gigantic fireball, setting the forest afire.

An effective Knee Mortar bombardment of a Soviet Jeep provides a positive counterpoint to the foolish advance into the same trees in the central town that nearly whipes out another squad.

Imagine this battlefield. This is disgusting, no matter who wins.

... To little effect, as an M-4 strolls into the sights of a Soviet Behemoth. I think I took out a AAA truck though! ^^
