disband Air HQ's in 41?
Do you as the Soviets? How do you get them back....it seems that from the manual the AI creates them for you? Can you build them?

Why would you do that? If you don't want them store them on the Urals. I don't think you get them back.

The only AIR HQs you get are in the reinforcement screen. You get maybe 3 or 4 in 1942, that's about it.

You do start with excess, but careful about disbanding them, as you cannot get them back.

You need one per front, and maybe 2 or 3 extra, after that you can probably safely disband them if you want to (like the Fleet Air Commands, those are superfluous).

There isn't much of a reason to do so, though, before 1942. Disbanding them puts Manpower in the pool, but in 1941 you don't have enough armaments anyway. So hold off. In 1942, you might do it for the Manpower.

Just a thought - I don't disband the Fleet Air HQ or bases - I leave them empty and then allocate them to the newly created Fronts (Baltic to Reserve/Volkhov in the north, Black sea to Ukranian in the south) The extra VVS and DAB/TBAD are really handy.

You can disband all the airbases you want. New airbases will be created if you have more than 6 groups assigned to every existing airbase. This allows you to disband any extra SAD bases early if you want.

I used to but I don't now. I pack every base with as many airframes as I can and harry the Luftwaffe as much as I'm able.

I only keep one air HQ per front / MD in 1941.
I disband all the rest as well as plenty of airbases.
I also disband corps HQ without waiting - fortified areas and some support units.
The aim is to get as many men as possible in the rifle divisions.
that's between 300 000 and 500 000 men for the airforce alone. That can make a lot of difference in you infantry strength.

from late 41 on you recieve one new airbase per turn. 50 airbases can hold 450 air units

Not only do the SAD airbases eventually disband in 1942, they do so 'randomly' which always seems to mess up my plans as the Soviets . . .

After my first GC as the Soviets, I disband all SAD airbases as soon as possible - this allows their replacements to start as soon as possible. I am short airbases during 1941, but they are coming online and doing well by the end of the year. As mentioned above, each airbase can support 9 air groups - more than enough support for the 41 and early 42 VVS.
