Swamps = Maginot line hexes?

Post by Gewehr43 »

Seems kind of ridiculous how it takes two German infantry Corps to move weak unfortified Soviet units in Swamps. Anybody else notice this?

What version are you using? Some patches ago the defensive bonus of swamps was cut by a large margin.

Those swamps become very handy in 1943 in reverse ;)

True but if the Russians are still fighting in 1943 it means the Germans have lost the war...

Not really. They will be fighting in 43 no matter what. The real question is where they are fighting. The longer their road to Berlin, the better your chances.

They will indeed if these swamp hexes continue to be treated as mini-Festungs in the game.

Well, one trick is to avoid attacking them. Sovs who stack up in swamps often get eager to hold on and then you just pocket up those units. That said, I know what you mean -- there's no shortcuts to Leningrad. IMO, the trick is not to try and find a way to beat the swamp hexes, but to manoeuvre into places where they are not as influential. Remember, too, some Sovs also put weaker units into swamps (to boost their defence) but then you can still get them. I just put 4 divs into an attack across the Dnepr into a Sov division showing 1-7 in a swamp with fort and blew it away because its morale or leadership was weak.

Positional (i.e. map) pictures please!

What scenario? What turn (i.e. game time)?

An obvious exaggeration bit not far off the mark. The swamps are ridiculously strong when occupied but very under strength units. Armor should have trouble in the swamps, but NKVD border guards hiding behind fallen logs against veteran infantry become super human... It's just too much, IMHO.

OK... I'll ask again... [;)]

Do you have savegame files for your situation?

Do you have screenshoot pictures that depict your situation?

If yes please post and we can look into it.
