strategic bombers not working as intended?

Post by krupp_88mm »

i was under the impression strategic bombers were supposed to be able to suppress nits similar to artillery, but it seems no matter what i do strategic bombers only do 1 suppression, when artillery is doing 6 or 7, this seems really imbalanced, i think strategic bombers should do more suppression when bombing units, or is this the way its intended?

No... strategic bombers were known for inaccuracy. 35% hit ratio.

They do get better when they have lots of experience.

Remember suppression last the whole turn.

What is the use of strategic bombers in this game?  There are no factories to bomb.
Best use I've seen is for anti-shipping.

They will
a) reduce fortification levels of the unit it attacks (like any attack)
b) supress some troops for THE REST OF THE TURN (this is a biggie)
c) they tend to do well in an anti-shipping role
d) they can "close down" an airfield or a city, rendering it useless (no AC refuel or no buying of new units) untill an infantery unit has entered the city/af

Ok I didn't know this. Sounds useful as it affects enemy reinforcement.
Don't bother reading the manual.

Also forgot to add, I tend to use them if I come across a target where I cannot get at the enemy arty wxcept by air, and the arty is proected by AA.

Turn 1, I will bomb the AA with the level bomber. This usually results in reduced entrenchment and lost ammo for the the AA gun, and maybe one point of strength lost on the bomber.
Turn 2, I bomb again with the level bomber, reducing ammo, fuel and entrenchment from the AA, maybe killing one strength point, and supressing 4-5. I then fly the level bomber away, and send in a Stuka which is now only a facing 4-5 strength AA (1 point killed and 4-5 points supressed), which should see the pesky AA killed off.
