Air defense vs anti-aircraft

Post by dsawan »

Hello. having a blast with this game. i have questions on air defense in game. Would it be possible to eventually separate it from anti-air like in PG1. AA units can serve as dual purpose units against ground targets in addition to AA. So far, I havent seen them usable to attack ground units esp infantry. The rest of air defense is fine. I was not sure what the reasonign was but it would be nice to have it like PG1. Thx.

I felt that having two classes, none of which saw a lot of use, only complicated things for players (because of no cross-class upgrades paths and smaller unit selection in each class). So I merged them into one. In the future we can consider "unlocking" ground attack ratings of some AA units, especially self-propelled ones, or make them dual-purpose, much like 88mm FlaK, but I don't think that having two separate classes again will improve things a lot and is the way to go.

Do they still work in two different ways (like they did in PG), one being able to shoot at planes attacking surrounding hexes and the other beinga more offensive weapon having to actively attack the planes?

(hope you understand what I mean)

All units in AA class provide defensive fire from air attacks, and all of them can fire after moving. As for active ground attack ratings, it is possible to assign them to units individually, so it does not depend on the class, but I think that at the moment out equipment file does not use this feature, and so all AA units come with no active ground attacks. Except 88mm FlaK of course, which can be switched to AT and back to AA.
