Unit icon question

Post by Rotluchs »

Thinking of buying this.... Looks great. One quick question... Am I forced to use the default unit icons or is there a choice for symbol icons, rectangle with x for infantry, o for armor, NATO standard map symbols... I'm not a huge fan of the cartoony vehicle graphics... Not that it will keep me from buying necessarily, just curious...

I'm not sure how playable the counters would be - there are more than 600 different unit types in the game, and it could be very hard to distinguish all them at a glance if counters are used. This is the reason why we did not make an option for this, but it is very easy to mod.

My preference is NATO counters - clear and, once learnt, easily understood. And must admit was initially put off game as it wasn't an option.

However, after having played for a while, the icons work well from an information and game setting point of view. I'm not sure counters would look right on the map - it's not top down view. Also not sure how you could clearly get enough info on the counter to easily pick out the individual units.

A reply from a dev to a forum question witnin 8 minutes with the answer to the question as well as an explanation to the answer as to the design philosophy behind the feature request... And not a single "RTFM" response. Kudos. I'll be purchasing based on that alone! Plus of course the game looks great and is getting screaming reviews. I'm not savvy enough to mod my own counters but I'm sure someone will work it out. :). Thanks!

Yep. Counters will not work here as it is very important to know what is the exact equipment.
