What ever happened to Modern Warfare

Post by pappahunt »

I seem to recall way back when I first stumbled on this site talk of a new version of the game called SPWaW Modern Warfare. Does anyone know what happend to it? Was it dropped or did it just get lost in the expansion of the original game:confused:

It got swallowed up under the umbrella of the "combat leader" development.

If you check some of the old posts in the combat leader forum, (you may have to go back several months) you'll find talk about the proposed development path for combat leader and its modules.

Last i heard, the plan was something like...

East Front 1939-45
Cold War 1972-1991
West Front 1939-45

and then in some undetermined order...

pacific front 1939-45
Cold War 1946-71
Modern Period 1991-2020

So... you may have to wait the several months till CL comes out, and then several more months till the first module comes out...

Because of the SPWAW game engine limitations it made it impossible to incorperate a modern era in a way we had all hoped for. Because this would have forced a complete recoding of SPWAW which wasn't economical or feasible. So building Combat Leader from the ground up has taken it's place, which will allow the capability in the future for modern warfare.

Ok! Thanks a lot for the quick reply. I've usually got so much on the go I don't have time to check back that far in the forums. :)

For a SP Modern game check out the Wargamers web site. They have a redone SPII which they call SPMBT. Its much better than the original SPII. They have paratroopers, chopprs which can load vehicles, drone aircraft etc. Until the modern version of Combat Leader comes out it is the only really modern game out there. The game goes up to 2020. Check it out.

Just don't forget to remember, that while SPWaW loves modern computers, SP II as well as anything for the most part that isn't SPWaW doesn't like modern computers much.

That modern fix is going to mean you have to use A an older computer, because B your new machine likely has already progressed to OS's like XP that don't really care much for the DOS versions to much.

Basically your choices are often run a Tiger tank around in a well playing game, or drive an Abrams around in an annoying DOS era game (mouse hassles etc).

That modern game can have strings attached eh.
I LIKE that my life bothers them,
Why should I be the only one bothered by it eh.
