House Rules

Post by CarnageINC »

WitE in a very straight forward game that has a lot going for it just out of the box. Unlike WitP, WitE doesn't need house rules to even things up much. However, I'm putting out a question on house rules for WitE. Looking for some realistic rules or some cool twists to implement for my up coming game with Redmarkus.

Red has come up with the first one, the Red AF can't do major assaults against the Luftwaffe until '43.

I personally would like to have a Hitler type rule that can change the Wehrmacht objective or something.

Any ideas would be appreciated [;)]

I am leaning towards no airbase attacks outside of turn 1. Just flying everything else has a tendency to make the air work out about right, in my opinion.

Invasions, pertaining to the Black Sea: The choices are: no limits, everything but Romania, east of Odessa, and the Crimea only. the game allows no limits, historically USSR only used invasions in the Crimea. My personal choice is east of Odessa, as it gives some variance to where invasions can happen, but cuts out Romania as it wasn't very feasible, and stops very ahistorical results (like not noticing an invasion in Romania in 1941 for several turns).

I can't really think of anything else.

I think I might agree with this.

No 1st move Riga gambit

Allow only one attack on each air base/turn after turn one - this so fighter duel combats can be simulated and so that at least some air base bombing is allowed

We plan on blocking the Riga gambit as transporting into newly captured ports should not happen on the turn of capture. So this is one house rule I'd agree with. Same for no amphib west of Odessa.

I would modify that a bit to "No amphib west of Sevastopol unless Sevastopol held by Russians in which case no amphib west of Odessa"

I would love to see this rule in the game. It gives a little importance to sevastopol.

Yes, that's better, and closer to what Pavel was suggesting last time I spoke with him.

I'm Brian of Nazareth and so is my wife.

(+1 to limiting amphib. +1 to limiting air attacks to 1 per airbase per turn.)

That sound good all of it! I don't know how important the Riga gambit is in the fall of Leningrad, probably not very, but it will still make it slightly more difficult for the Germans to take Leningrad, it now seems to fall in the majority of games.

I have faced games where there are multiple little invasions of the Crimea time after time, annoying as hell and not too efficient as far as I could see. Still, it did tie down some troops I would have liked elsewhere. I believe some AARs have shown massive invasions in 1942-43 that are a bit much. JAM had a house rule about only invading a certain distance from a port that seemed to temper this - plus he is adverse to losing units - but some people seem to go all out in invasions.

Amphib invasions only across the Kerch Strait and across the Sea of Azov.

Got to agree with the airbase attack rule as well
