Capital Ships (ROTS)

Post by ak »

I have a pretty nice empire cooking (120 worlds +) and masses of old capital ships and cruisers. Now while I am now able to build my own cruisers, should I scrap the old ones?

More importantly - what do I need to build my own capital ships? I read somewhere that I need to find the nexus of the red claw or something to get that ability (already have the super large construction tech), I found the ruins, and nothing...so it might have been pre-ROTS? What do i need now?

Finally for all those DS9 aficionados out there: on a super-scenic gas giant with all the right resources I have build a very large resort (30 passenger) plus multiple gas extractors, commerce hubs, fighter bays, construction bays, etc....and now i have one massive armed space station with construction capabilities and with over 1 million guests :)

Scrap or not, it's your choice. If the new ones are better and you're pressed for money, go ahead. If not and you can still find a use for the old ones, don't.
You don't need any special tech to build cap ships afaik, you can build them from the get go. The size is influenced by construction yard tech.

And don't worry about the 1mil passengers, that number is broken and it will increment forever. It unfortunatelly tells us how many passengers have ever visited the station (which is not useful) and not how many are currently visiting it which would be indeed useful. I hope this is fixed soon, we need to be able to estimate when we'll need additional resorts.

I usually scrap any foriegn ship I get to pilfer technology...
No I am not a Ferengi!
So if you think you are missing something, I would take the ships apart for technology.
If you have not done it before, simply click on the ship, hit retire and the option you select is to retire at the nearest base...

I believe you TJ....as a matter of fact, this photo from a Security Scanner shows
you removing weapons from Igard's Cargo Bay..... [:-]

This means you are either a true Jawa, or an Elasomorph, able to take any form!
(Which is an EXTREMELY scary thought!) [8|]

Is there any way to tell how many credits you will get when you retire a ship before you actually do it? Right now I am harvesting a debris field and all I'm getting for the tech is advancement in storage. I'm thinking that the ships themselves might be worth more than storage technology (boring). On the other hand, it would be nice to know what the cash incentive was.

we'd need a controled test to confirm this but afaik the credits you get back are a percentage of the initial cost you paid to get it (two thirds or some such, iirc).

Ok, I had to do some quick tests to remember that when you retire ships you actually don't get ANY credits (or fuel for that matter).
You only get the resources back and that's it.

Thanks for finding that out, Data. Apart from not getting the fuel back ,that's the way it should be IMO.

If anything, it should cost you money for the maintenance crews to dissect the ship. Maybe they get paid whatever they find in the fuel tanks.

Actually pilfering technology... that sounds like a Borg...

Ummm: an alert to the Eretz Defense Force: no more pilfering technology.

By the way EHSUMRELL: how do YOU have camera footage from IGard's cargo bay...

I'm with you on this one as well, Igard, I like that it is implemented this way.

First: You'd be surprised where a camera can be hidden on an Orion Slave Girl. [X(]

Secondly: If you ask any member of the Ba'ku race, they'll tell you we Sona have a bit
of cloaking and hologram technology knowledge ourselves!

and finally (Don't tell Igard), when I was in his lab assisting him on his Star Trek
mod calculations.... I MADE A KEY! [:D]
