Sorry to bother an overall commander with stats & figures but:
I refer to t67-CR and T67 losses. I compared the the AFV figures from both sources. What strikes me is the great difference in the ability to recover from AFV losses in battle between Ger and Sov.
SOV-CR: 494 losses, permanent: 267, gives you roughly >50% perm losses in AFV
GER-CR: 93 losses, permanent losses: 25, slightly above 25%
Better commanders, better tanks, fort level, what is it that determines tank warfare in 42?
Or shouldn't the Sovs not care because of their overall tank/production figures?

The CR screen shows attacks during the Soviet turn while the loss screen shows losses during my turn, that's why the numbers don't add up.

Turn 70. October 15 1942. Mud.

Some scattered attacks as usual, but nothing spectacular. 5 out of 9 retreats caused by the 1-1 rule.

Here is an overview of the entire front after the 1942 campaigning season. Except in the far north, the front has barely budged, moved one hex to the west in some places.

Hi all,

How is your Moscow situation?

The bulge there seems very very narrow and I would be concerned with winter coming...

I am not too worried right now. I am sure the Ivans would love to cut it off, but if they couldnt do it in clear, I doubt they will be able to do it in snow. This is the winter of 42-43 coming up, so no blizzard effects.

I have no doubt that the Moscow bulge will be an issue eventually though, and naturally I am a bit reluctant to give up Moscow freely...

You might still want to rail some reserve units to the hexes directly west of Moscow, as a double line of units at the frontline can be broken, so with those units you'd have a smaller chance that the units in Moscow would be isolated. I'd also suggest moving the HQ's back a bit, but you might only have placed them there for the mud turns.

What happens to the OOBs when nothing happens? Rationale (of course depends on 41 damage and 42 recovery): to what extent do Sov figures increase?
BTW: I am a dedicated follower of your AARs, great read, learned a lot, really hope no one drops out too soon.

Thanks! We are in this for the long haul, so don't worry! [:)]

Here is OOB and losses for turn 74. You can compare the numbers yourself. Germans barely keeping their numbers, Soviets growing.

Turn 74. Snow.

With the big offensives and grand encirclements a time of the past, one has to find satisfaction in the smaller things in life. For example, the completion of a strech of railway behind the front.

The central part of the front, bracing themselves for the Sovviet winter offensive...

An armored corps is being railed in from the Finnish front. I have a hunch that sector is going to stay quiet this time.

Why? You've denied the manpower there to Q-Ball for almost one year. Do you really think clinging to Moscow will have some measurable positive effect on the fortunes of the Axis?

Something captured with the cost of blood (or electrons) is hard to give up without a fight. So it is a combination of playing in character ("where the German soldier has set his foot, he will remain") and me as a player being reluctant to give up something freely. [;)]

Heh [:)] This has been a very interesting game to watch: both with you on the offense and in the defense.

Good luck Tarhunnas. From what I've seen on WAAR's involving Q-Ball, he'll be really preparing his offensive. Which is bad news [;)]

Hint? I don't think I shared here anything that anybody who hasn't been following Q-Ball on WITP:AE forums, his games against Cuttlefish and Canoerebel are in a high place on my particular AAR Hall Of Fame, didn't already know :)

He's a very sound gamer, meticulous and works the most out of game mechanics. I'd love to lock horns with him over a WiTE GC :)

I also find this to be quite addictive - like pistachio nuts.

Tactical question:

Why the adjacent lines of units rather then somewhat interspercing hexes between the forward and rear units?

Yes, a spaced line offers some advantages, but it also risks losing ground faster and that unoccupied fortifications are destroyed.
