Question about mods

Post by datsun240 »

Hi just I got DW and ROTS the other day and am enjoying them I tried out some mods and got the Star Trek Spock Era one to work fine earlier I set up a complete(not the quick start mode) game and all worked just fine.I only messed around for a short time and then quit the game to eat dinner.

When I loaded the game back up of course it was still using the Star Trek theme and I changed the them to the Star Wars mod and I got tons of issues at the race selection screen and also at the screen where you select the other empires.I assume that this occurred because I had gone form one theme to another so I quit the game and loaded it up again and tried to load the default theme but it was also giving me issues. So I decided to uninstall the entire game and then install it again.

So is there a process to changing themes? When I change a theme should I change back to the default if currently in another theme and then change to something else?I read the design and modding PDF but it not seem to say anything about this though it seems that there must be a "correct" way to change out themes seeing as the first time the Star Trek theme worked just fine.I have run mods in many other games before and they seem to have a right way and a wrong way so DW must as well.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Hi datsun. Welcome to the DW forums.[:)]

There used to be alot of error pop ups when changing between themes. This was caused by race names and stats being different for each theme. However this was fixed in one of the latest patches by 'clearing' them from the empire selection setup menu. So there should no longer be any problems apart from you getting empty boxes in the selection screen.

Have you installed the latest patch? If not, doing so should resolve this.

If you are running the latest patch, V.1.5.0.8 I believe for RotS, then you should make a post in the tech support forum with some screenshots and a description of the problem.

Ah I did not think of that I did not have ROTS fully patched up it.I will update and then test it out I would imagine that was the issue.Nice work on your Star Trek mods by the way from my brief test run Spock Era seemed pretty well done.I will give it another shot after patching up and post back. Thanks

Oo yes, datsun, this mod will definitly deliver loads of fun. The only problem I have with it is that the game loads just when the music starts to pick up the pace...and it loses it [:D]
So this is a serious reason to tune again the loading time.
And welcome to the forum, have fun.

After re-installing ROTS and updating to the latest patch I tested the Star Wars and the Kirk Era mods for about an hour each and they worked fine. The only thing I find is for some reason it will give me notice windows about things being missing(probably race/ship data that was used by a previous theme) but everything that should be included with the given theme will show up races and such.I think it has something to do with the game start up and the race selection for yourself and the empires you wish to add and what had been used previously. If I simply fill in the empire blocks again the game will load up perfectly fine.

I had the a similar issue with the Kirk theme sometimes it would play the Star Trek music and then it would stop for a few minutes. Not really a big deal though. My only problem now will deciding which theme I am going to play because I like something about each of them good thing I have plenty of space on my hard drive for saves.

A great game though with all the themes and the ability to play sandbox which I normally select not mention how massive you can set the universe to be gives DW alot of long term playability something many PC games lack these days.

Yap, that makes it such a beautiful game. I also enjoy sandbox with the biggest possible universe to explore and....just be.
