You a wooden ship model builder, Stevo? I love to do that myself. Very relaxing.ORIGINAL: AW1Steve
I'd need a mantle. (My USS Constitution is in storage as a result .) [:(]

My favorite booze is what other people are stocking for me, Steve. [:D] I'm open to most tasty adult beverages, single malt Scotch or single malt Irish Whiskeys, blended Canadian whiskeys, Bourbon, Gin, Vodka...holy cow-I just realized that I'm an alky! [:D]
Since I'm your guest, it is customary for me to bring something that we can share accordingly. What are your and Lou's preferences, my good man?
I picked you up a little something in honor of your Birthday already. It's NOT a mantle-sized Yamato, although I did give that some thought. [:D]
I'd need a mantle. (My USS Constitution is in storage as a result .) [:(] Seriously, who makes a fireplace without a mantle? [&:](maybe for the bottom of a fish tank? With a couple of holes in it? [:D]
My bar is pretty well stocked (and seldom used) with lots of all of those libations (heck, I've even stocked Aquavites inclase "T" or Per show up). Yes, I have several Japanese libations for your alter ego (several Sakis, plum wine, Soju's and even Suntory single malt).
I can't think of a thing to bring , unless it's something related to you adopted home? [:)]
Keep telling you, unless somebody drops a bag of money on my head, a trip to the US isn't happening. No work, no vacation, no goings anywheres...
I hear you, I have the same problem. All I'm saying , is that when that bag of money drops on your head , and if you for some God only knows reason you decide to visit, you've got a room an a bottle waiting for you. Mind you, I'd have expected a visit when I lived in DC more than Omaha though. [:D]

No, not wood. I limit my self to plastic and occassionally resin. Besides, as I do mainly modern craft, wood wouldn't be appropriate. A wooden Los Angles class? Or a Wood Krivak? The wood model was one I ordered when I lived in a big old house with a humungeous fireplace (and mantle) in Bremmerton Washington. It's stayed in storage the whole time since. Besides, It's the only ship I've ever been assigned to (for a whole weekend!) [:D]

Hope you find something soon, bro.

I agree. I wish I had the time to do them these days. I did Constitution and Constellation (I believe) in my youth.

And they are just so beautiful, aren't they? I have a Prince de Neufchatel in 1:50 (white pine, alder and poplar) that I've been working on for years. Would love to do a diorama of a Dutch, French, Brit, 1730s, Cruizer type brig/sloop hull form on the stocks; half planked, half open to an admiralty frame model.ORIGINAL: Mynok

Must apologize, Nik. I apologized for you to Alan Zimm on the PH book thread for reasons I hope I set out clearly.
Ok, so shoot me if ya don't agree. I won't move from the target.

I won't shoot you John.......because I still have to vet out your mod [:D]
There was no need for you to apologize on my behalf however, because i have nothing to apologize for. If this really was/is Alan Zimm taking offense that I don't like his new book, then he's only proving my gut instinct correct based on the arrogant behavior of the poster or posters claiming to be him. Like i said in my response, maybe i'm a naive clown, but knowing one professional author and college professor in the past (Richard Worth) I just have a hard time wrapping my brain around a fellow academic of such lothy accolades acting in such a fashion. If it is him, his attitude speaks volumes more on him than on me.

Beautiful indeed. Of course, I love the woodies so much better than the steel coffins anyway. Partial to frigates and bigger though. Especially frog SOL's. Drool worthy ships those were.

It was amazing to see the pictures of her immediately after the battle: full of holes, all the masts gone, and yet 200 years later, voilá!

Yeah, I'll never say Victory isn't gorgeous. British first rates were truly grand. Not as grand as Frog first rates but damn close.

Funny you should mention that. I was out buying my 7 YO boy a replacement Beta fish a couple weeks ago. We looked at some tank accessories while we were there. They had several sunken battleships-some with Japanese characters on their sides, others with English lettering in entirely the wrong location to identify the ship. I couldn't stomach the thought of spending good money on a BB model with such blatantly incorrect turret configurations though. [:D]

I once had a Russian "Yankee" class submarine with an appropriately cracked hull in a 40 gal. (We sealed it with a "safe" epoxy coating.) [:)]

I have to agree Nik, with the sentiment at least. I can understand an author wanting to defend his book, but struggle to deal with academic arrogance. Write a book Nik. I'll buy it and Dr Zimm can rip the piss out of it, then everyone will be happy and John can kiss your arse too![;)]

I got it. I got it. Took a while, but finally got there.
And if Nik was to write a book, I would buy it as well, and probably kiss his arse too.[8D]
