Soviet Target Units

Post by Powloon »

Just about to start my first campaign. I was trying to work out which units are essential to eliminate.

I believe that Paratroops,Cavalry,NKVD,AT Units don't come back when they are eliminated. Is that correct? Are there any more?

And motorized and tank divisions. Even if they will come again (as infantry div and tank brigades), they have a lot of vehicles!

Strategically, since most of the Soviet armor is garbage at start, killing them isn't a high priority for me.  And Soviet armor of the west simply disintegrates as it moves eastward.  The reliability of the tanks is horrendous, and the Soviets can do almost as much damage to their armor (if they don't move it by rail, which I advocate in certain circumstances) by moving it as the Germans can by routing it.  The trucks are useful, though.

Top priority for me would be airborne, because they can become very good with upgrades and that comes reasonably early.

Cavalry because it's truly the best unit the Soviet has in 1941.

NKVD because they're giant pains in the butt.

I don't think you serve yourself well as the German by concerning yourself with WHAT you're encircling, just that you're making good pockets and good speed.

Isolating Soviet mobile troops and make them surrender gives nice number of captured vehicles to German pool. This is why I isolate and kill them if I have chance but I wont actively pursue them becouse of this.

You can hasty attack a size 0 NKVD unit say 6 times in a row as it retreats and get a nice morale increase and zero casualties per battle, just fatigue. I now love those so called pains in the butt.
